3.. 2.. 1.. From three steems to 'wan' SPs - a poem, a new start and a declaration

http://i.imgur.com/iM5MUQ5.png

Today marks the day when my SP level exceeds 10,000. Normally, people celebrate about it or even do nothing as it is only numbers. I thought about how I should deal with it and decided that I would like to convey a message to the community about how I will stick with Steemit no matter how the future is gonna unfold. Don’t wanna go lengthy about it so I will try to express it in a poem style and a few words later to explain.

3 … 2 … 1 …

From Three Steems to ‘Wan’ SPs and to the unknown future

Three is the number of Steems I was given when registered on July 14

From then to now it has been one hell of a 4-month ride that I cannot express fully in even a hundred posts

“Wan” is the number of SPs this account has just achieved, witnessing this surreal journey in the digital world

From three to wan I has transformed from an accidental passer-by into a new citizen of the crypo-universe

From three to wan this amazing place evolves from the platform to their platform and from today on to our platform

I was a blogger that has not blogged enough

I was a talker but I has not shared enough

I was an investor that has poured in my passion and pin money

I was a learner that learnt the fact that there is still so much to learn

I was a dreamer that for the first time experienced the phrase - only imagination is the limitation

These do not matter anymore

From today on it is a brand new start to me again and I will just describe myself to be a … Steemian

I am not here to speculate

I am here to see spectacular

I am not here to invest

I am here to get involved

I am not here to mock

I am here to make

I hereby solemnly declare that this @deanliu account will always hold above 10,000 SPs

Forever until the blockchain of Steem shall ever cease to exist

Phew~~~ Did I get too serious!? :-)  Relax… I am serious but it is really no big deal if you truly believe in it. So, just another day to Steemit and just another post to boost my SPs … Have a nice day!

Oh, by the way, ‘Wan’ (萬) means the number of 10,000 in Chinese. And in the following I am gonna talk to my dear cn community in Chinese.

Sincerely yours,

@deanliu

Galilei Family Brunch at Taipei Xinyi has a fun painting

http://i.imgur.com/bK8ne4Wl.jpg

I had some hesitation in sharing this family restaurant with you since although it is good but not really too special. However, when I reviewed those photos I took and saw the one I put above, I couldn’t help sharing it - it is way TOO cute and hilarious!! Hence the title. So, read on.

The Restaurant and the Painting

This nice family restaurant, Galilei Family Brunch, is located on the 4F of Shinkong Mitsukoshi A8 Mall (Xinyi Place), at the heart of Taipei’s newest core commercial area. It is really important for parents with little children if they decide to come here for shopping or having meals as this neighborhood is very crowded and good options for parents are really limited. Here they endeavor to provide a relaxing environment for parents as well as their little ones. You can see at the entrance that it is designed to be under a huge tree.

They hang a really funny painting here and literally I find everyone who first sees this painting will at least smile, or often laugh. I saw this painting long time ago when I passed by and immediately I remembered this restaurant. Finally we went two weeks ago when we happened to need both: “family” (i.e. get rid of my kid) and “restaurant” (I need to eat! with dignity!). I really love this “Monalisa baby” but I don’t know if it is original or just a copy.

You can see lots of baby transportation vehicles parked here with some seasonal Halloween decorations.

This is an extremely important area - that’s why we paid the premium price!! Let the devils go to their dens and let us eat like humans again!!

The Food

Their food is pretty good, considering that most family restaurant in Taipei don’t pay much attention to adults’ menu as they know our weakest point - we will come as long as they can provide good environment and food for kids. So quality food for parents is really just a bonus as well as how it stands out from its competitors. I did not take many photos of our food - too hungry to shot, you know. Here is one and it does look good.

My son had this kid’s pasta. Although he kept asking his mother to feed him with her risotto. I probably ate more pasta than him - it was really good! You can see the spoon, fork and knife embedded in the tray with a house shape plate. Cute.

The Surroundings

It is nicely located on a floor with a large balcony area where there are kids’ playing equipment provided by the mall for free as well as some additional kids’ small cars or train ride that requires some fee.

[Luxury Hotel Series] - Regent Taipei - part 1 - SteemFest Live and the Roof Top Swimming Pool [五星飯店系列] 台北晶華 part 1。

We are no rich people but my wife and I developed a habit to save for a while and use the money to stay in a good hotel in the city we live or during our trip abroad. What we like about good or even luxury hotels is the comfort, relaxation, aura and indulgence they can offer. Over the years, we have accumulated quite a lot of photos taken inside these good hotels - yes, we like to take photos of every corners of the hotel given that this would not disturb others and makes us like stupid tourists. I am not sure if there are many people on Steemit that share this ‘hobby’ but today is my first trial post that focuses on hotel only. I will share one hotel via several themes and posts in a casual way. After all, photos sometimes say it all. Hope you enjoy it!

Today, let’s start with our most familiar hotel - Regent Taipei (I mentioned it before in a funny reporter’s post here). And I include two themes - the first one is the hottest topic last week, the SteemFest. I did not go but I followed the live feed here in the hotel room. Then, I had a good swim at the roof top swimming pool that is beautiful and relaxing (not comparable to those resorts of course!).

Now, come with me!

All set up and waiting for SteemFest to come alive.

A word playing poem for blockchain in Chinese

This is a playful post. Not technical at all. A poem in Chinese. English explanation and translation is given below the photo.

—————————————————————

note.

http://i.imgur.com/PtPsFJz.jpg

The above is a word playing poem for blockchain in (traditional) Chinese. It was written during days ago when I spent an afternoon in a hotel cafe. Me and my wife had some drinks (for the record, she, not me :), ordered this apple cider and I had beer but her drink looks better so I put it here) and I read some articles on blockchain. After seeing this term in Chinese (區塊鏈,pronounced as Chiu Kuai Lian or Qu Kuai Lian) repetitively, I got naughty and tried to dismantle these three words and combined it with blockchain’s potential impact and influences to write up this ‘poem’ (it is harder to do so in English … what can you dismantle from it other than block and chain?). I quickly revised a Google-translated draft to finish with the following English version. Just to give you some idea of what I write in the Chinese one.

Blockchain

Mouth (口) for people, three for all

Chiu (區) the word breaks the artificial state boundaries

The sound of public opinion, free flow of global opinion

Soil (土) for the region, ghost (鬼) for talent

Kuai (塊) the word releases human intelligence from space limitation

All so eye-catching, wisdom and art burst and intensify in all dimensions

Gold (金) for value, connecting (連) streams

Lian (鏈) the word depicts the instantaneous cascading of the world’s multiple values

From binary to omnipresent, ecosystems create a new era of individuality

Blockchain

Appeared in the past, coming from the future, to the present

:)   Thank you for reading!

MYOT - Make Your Own Toys for your kids! Let's make a Concentration/Memory game from a tissue box!!

Two weeks ago I had a great time making a fishing set for my little boy and he has been crazy fishing all day ever since …

MYOT - Make Your Own Toys for your kids! This time it’s the Fishing Set!

This time we tried to make a different type of game and we don’t need anything from stores… Just your used tissue box… yeah, TRASH if you like. Very environmental right!? :-)  The game is very famous and traditional and popular… it is called Concentration game or Memory game or even Memory Match game. Quite simple and yet it is fun and educational since your kid will need to learn to stay concentrated and memorize card positions. Well, sometimes even we, the adults, need to polish your brain’s memory function … be warned - you might lose it to a 3 years old!! :-) And, it is competitive … aka fun. Good for spending time (making once and playing forever) with your little ones!!

Let’s see what we need for this game:an  used and empty tissue box, a scissors, a pen and a marker pen, a building block for drawing square shape. That’s it!! The total amount of money needed is $0.

http://i.imgur.com/JLh2ou8.jpg

Now, trace 24 square shapes on that flattened box using the building block. You can count the number of squares on the photo. It is indeed 24. That means we will create 12 pairs of matching cards. Also, notice that since there are already some patterns on the box … they can be utilized to save some later drawing for you! You will see it soon.

http://i.imgur.com/xcNqRrM.jpg

Now. You can google some patterns on line or create your own. I am less creative so I pic-googled it. I used the keyword “icon” to help locating good copy sources. And then use the marker pen to draw 12 pairs of patterns. Please, when I say pair, it means they need to look reasonably alike. I am not asking you to be Picasso but at least you must be a decent enough copycat… :-)  This is critical or your kid might not recognize them as a pair.

http://i.imgur.com/mr45Bk0.jpg

Viola! Now here is what we created: 12 pairs. Including hearts, bicycles, clocks, circles, stars, spirals, envelops, phones, clouds, moons, flowers and suns. Notice that we used original tissue box patterns to be circles and stars without drawing ourselves (almost forget… also the flowers, only I re-draw it with market pen). :-)

http://i.imgur.com/Rt3YEcJ.jpg

Also, you should make sure that there cards look reasonably identical when they are flipped over (box selection and cutting are two factors to notice). This is fundamental for playing the game. Mine looked okay, right!?

http://i.imgur.com/rPSbn9B.jpg

Okay! Job done! You are now ready to play! Maybe most of you know how to play this game. But I will just quote from a website to show you the game rules:

THE RULES FOR PLAYING “MEMORY”

Mix up the cards.

Lay them in rows, face down.

Turn over any two cards.

If the two cards match, keep them.

If they don’t match, turn them back over.

Remember what was on each card and where it was.

Watch and remember during the other player’s turn.

The game is over when all the cards have been matched.

The player with the most matches wins.

I put some photos here to help you realize there rules here. The fat little hands belong to my son.

http://i.imgur.com/LZPR8sB.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/ZXc2FeB.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/kwtU6zK.jpg

The following three show how you can memorize the positions of bicycles and then successfully flip the correct two and keep them to your winning pairs.

http://i.imgur.com/V6sJsGE.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/a8EwG3S.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/sLXV1cW.jpg

This time, we had fun, we spent hours doing and playing it and most important of all … I spent no money We helped saving the planet !! :-)

Have fun MYOT for your kids! See you next time. I still have many toy experience to share in the future!

Update Note.
