What is your favorite prison?

(credit: pixabay)

Me and my 4-year-old son were having a little fun over dinner yesterday night. As he is quite into learning English at the moment, I tried to have some conversation with him. So I started asking…

Dad: What is your favorite color?

Son: Black!

Dad: Ok. What is your favorite food?

Son: Grapes! (with BIG smiles!)

Dad: Who is your favorite person?

Son: Emily! (a cute girl in his kindergarten class, sitting next to him!)

Dad: Hmm…

Son: Me ask Me ask! … What is your favorite color?

Dad: Blue of course! (Steemit BLUE! Yeah!!)

Son: What is your favorite PRISON?

Dad: What!? Prison? Are you sure? Who taught you that?

Son: Yes. Prison. What is your favorite PRISON?

Dad: It’s not like I had been to one. But perhaps Tu-Chen prison (as it is the first prison to imprison a former President of Taiwan. It might be good if I really have to choose) (of course, he did not respond to my reply…so I kept asking …)

Dad: Then. What is YOUR favorite prison then?

Son: THOMAS!

Dad: What!? Is it an American prison? Oh… I see, it is ‘present’ you are talking about! (But Thomas the engine train is from UK - Dad noted)

Son: Yes! Thomas the friends! Yes! (Got off from table and went for his Thomas trains… )

Thanks for watching!

Sunday SBD Giveaway If You Pick the Winning Meal

https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/09/26/AORBff5e0.md.png

For the past three weeks, I have gave away $15 SBD in total to three different Steemians (see #1, #2 and #3) and the first two are both interesting and the winners both blogged about this experience in their blog… The last dude … well, I haven’t heard from him/her ever since.

This week, I am changing this game a little bit as 1) $5 SBD is now less affordable to me and 2) I am running out of cafes but have some dinning experiences to share. So, this time let’s have fun with more people! I am going to offer two meal selections to you, both of which I had last week, and if you take the ‘correct’ side in the end, you will get a small prize for fun!

https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/09/25/Titles8b3af.png

So, in the following we have three parts: first, the rules for this SBD giveaway; second, the presentation of Set A Meal; third, the presentation of Set B Meal. Join now by replying your choice and may the best gourmet side wins!

Rules and Introduction

Ladies and Gentlemen, tonight we have prepared for you two exquisite selections of Asian style meals from two different restaurants - the first one is Set A, the traditional Chinese cuisine by Golden Chicken which specialized in Jiangsu and Zhejian cuisine; the second one is Set B, the flavor of freshness from sea by Waisanding Sand Bar which is famous for their fresh seafood especially oysters and milkfish. Details in the following. Both meals are not expensive and cost around USD $11-$12. So this is en equal contest between meals as well.

The rules for this giveaway are:

  • How to Join: Just reply with your selection of either Set A or Set B and you are in. Each account is allowed only one answer. Notice that all entries must be made BEFORE the first payout - that’s the cutoff point for deciding the Winning Side.

  • Decision of Winning Side: After the first payout, I will count the valid entries from both sides (A and B) and the one with more votes is the Winning Side! Note the votes here is not ‘upvotes’ but your selection of meals only. So, nothing to do with your SP, your vote counts equally with @dantheman if he participates (not likely though :p). Sounds good!? This is food democracy! [if we have a tie, then EACH side will be rewarded!]

  • Giveaway PRIZES: For the first 5 entries (1st-5th) on the Winning Side, each will get $0.3 SBD; Subsequent 5 entries (6th-10th) get $0.2 SBD and the next 10 entries (11th-20th) get $0.1 SBD. Total prize pool is $3.5 SBD. Sorry the economy is not as good as one week ago… But there is something to hope for… see next

  • Pray for MULTIPLICATION: All the prizes will be MULTIPLIED should the total payout exceeds $15. The multiplier will be M=(total first payout)/15. For example, if the payout turns out to be $60 (same number with my rep now :p), then M=4 and all prizes are 4 times bigger! So the first 5 on winning side gets $1.2 SBD and etc…

Hints:

  • Select what you really like or if you don’t have clear preference, select what you think others will like…

  • Enjoy the picking process. Don’t worry about the tiny prizes…

  • If you are late to the game, well, count yourself and see which side has better odds

  • If you do care about the prizes, Ring Your Whale Friends to upvote and trigger the MULTIPLICATION, if you think you will end up on the winning side.

In this delicate and delicious meal, we will serve steamed dumpling or aka Xiao Long Bao, Pearl Balls or rice meat balls, seafood porridge with egg yolk, fried beancurd puff with vermicelli soup and finally the dessert - Eight Precious Sweet Rice.

First, the Xiao Long Bao, served with ginger shreds and soysauce.

Pearl Balls. Steamed meal balls with rice coating. Yum.

Seafood porridge with egg yolk. Hot and Good!

After you stir it up a little bit, it looks so beautiful and now you can see some seafood inside.

Fried beancurd puff with vermicelli soup. This is just another famous traditional JiangZhe dish.

Something sweet to finish - Eight Precious Sweet Rice. Sweet!

Take a look around the restaurant. Some news reports (here and here) even compare it, the Golden Chicken, with Din Tai Fung (if you don’t know this restaurant, see @ace108 ‘s report from Singapore). Well, honestly, it is not as good as DTF, but given the price level, it may be comparable!

Don’t rush making your decision, keep looking!

https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/09/25/TitleB23819.png

Okay then. You do have other options and this coming one is definitely a good one! Set B is a fantastic meal from nature’s offerings. If you love seafood, it might steal your stomach. We will serve fried shrimp rolls rice combo, oysters fried noodles, milkfish soup, oyster soup, fried beancurd and boiled vegetables. If Set A is about flavors from a long long time ago, then Set B is about flavors to your mouth in no time from the nature!

First one is the fried shrimp rolls rice combo. I cut the roll open to let you see inside stuffing - it is crispy, juicy and delicious!

Oysters fried noodles - my favorite dish here. Fried with lots of garlic and fresh oysters directly from the sea (the restaurant name is actually the place where all seafood are from).

Milkfish soup. Milkfish is a very famous cultivated Taiwan fish which contains a lot of good proteins and hence considered very nutritious.

Oyster soup. It is cooked with some sauerkraut to enhance the flavor. Don’t bite your tongue.

Side dishes like fried beancurd and boiled vegetables to give you balanced diet.

Last, an overview for your final consideration.

https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/09/25/1474694410142c1939.jpg

Take a look around as well. The bottom shows where the place (also the restaurant name) is in Taiwan.

That’s it, folks! Now it is time for you to decide: Set A? or Set B?

Bon appetite and have fun!!

(thanks to @papa-pepper !)

My reputation just reaches 60… Sweet! ^^

UPDATE! The winning side, a little bit to my surprises, is 8-to-1 Set A!! but, unfortunately Multiplication is not activated… still all 8 voters have been given the prize and the lonely Set B supporter is also given a $0.1 as thank you! Seems most people still go for oriental flavor! Thank you all upvoters and participants. It is a nice outcome!

100% SP Might Be A Good Payout Option Now!

https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/09/25/100SP1227f.png

A few days ago, a payout option of 100% Steem Power is available for authors. You may have already seen it at the bottom of your post editor. Like this…

https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/09/25/100SP473f21.png

Also recently, if you do not select this 100% SP option, the default payout payment option is also changed slightly - a small portion of your original 50% SBD is paid by Steem instead.  Therefore, you are now paid by ALL three forms of currencies of this Steem system - SBD, Steem and SP. Well, personally I think it is quite messy. Take a look of my record in the following. The blue underlined are the default payment ones and the red one is the one I tried with 100% SPs.

https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/09/25/100SP3e7943.png

The following is my suggestion to authors fulfilling certain criteria…

If you are an author that …

  • Don’t need the SBDs in the short run: it could be that most of your posts are under $10, or that you are very successful but you always convert your earned SBDs into Steem and then power up because you are extremely confident on Steemit’s future and/or you don’t need post earnings to pay collaborators or daily bills.

  • Don’t think that Steem price will keep falling: if you believe in Steemit but are pessimistic about whales’ powering down and the short run price trend, then you should probably store more SBDs…

Given the fact and recent trend …

  • Procedures involved with transferring SBD to exchange, doing a transaction into BTC then into Steems, transferring Steems back to Steemit and then powering up… It is just troublesome and there are some costs associated… Just not worth your time and energy if the amount is not big. Internal markets are easier but the rate is not as good.

  • Recent Steem price is at least stabilized, if you don’t think an upward trend has been formed. From the recent lowest point of 0.0007 or so, we have the price back to around 0.001 now… IF the price keeps rising, then powering up as soon as you get paid might be a good idea! Of course, there is no guarantee of that.

Hence my suggestion is …

It is time to choose “Pay me 100% in Steem Power” and grow with this platform NOW !!

Now You Can Edit Your Old Posts within One Month

https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/09/23/writing-19871_64051ee7.jpg

(above photo credit: pixabay)

I just found out about this change today. Not sure how long it has been effective…

So, now you, as an author, will no longer bothered by the 24 hour or first payout cutoff point - before or after that, you can do editing as much as you want… Only the posts older than one month, i.e. after 4 week or second payout, are not allowed to be edited again. Still, one month is fairly enough or even a little bit too long from readers’ perspective (if the author can edit after such a long time… why should we read or upvote so fast?). One convenience it brings about, IMO, is when you need to repetitively post similar contents (like a regular update of something but you still do it manually) then you can copy the code from older post by entering editing mode and easily revise it to be your new post. Hope this is a valuable information for you.

https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/08/31/logoe4764.png

Note. This post will try the 100%SP payout option for the first time.

What will happen after you Reblog/Resteem a Comment ? Probably not a bug...

https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/09/12/bug-1296147_640bca31.th.png

Please, don’t bother reading this post if you are not extremely bored.

Two weeks ago, Steemit introduced the Promotion function. Somehow I found out that you could actually ‘promote’ a ‘comment’ (which is pointless obviously) and the team solved it very quickly along with the problem of promoting posts after first payout… Good. Great!

Days ago, Steemit introduced another new function - “Reblog” (or “Resteem” ?? I am confused…). Which is also interesting and great… Good! Well, this time again I found that there is a button for Reblog/Resteem when you have the comment shown in a single page. See here - comment to my linguistic coffee from the poet @richardjuckes …

https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/09/22/commentre3650a.png

I have a such a strong desire to just click it and see what happens and I think Richard’s comment looks very good to appear on my blog page so I will give it a go. Although, it is also quite pointless to reblog a comment (which is processed similar to posts in many ways inside the Steemit system). Anyway I clicked it and nothing happened. Nothing new showed up on my blog page. There is one error message though. Saying… (sorry! Richard! your comment is not Top level enough… :p)

https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/09/22/commentre2b6cf6.png

So… Conclusion: You CAN click the reblog button at the comment page but nothing will happen (have fun clicking though… ). And, this is not a bug as the team has obviously cut off this possibility (they just haven’t found time to remove the button I guess… ). If you really want to see bugs… check here: my bugs or @pfunk ‘s more beautiful(?) bugs…

Have a great day!!
