This post is to share my observation here to all new comers who don’t have time or have not such a profound brain to read the whitepaper. I will use the basic concepts that we learn from our childhood to illustrate some important concepts at Steemit. If you don’t know about these arithmetic, call your elementary school teacher please!

這篇文章要用大家孰悉的「加減乘除」的概念來跟新魚兒們分享我對Steemit的一些觀察。以便讓你未來在這裡好好悠遊(別被吞了)！

All four basic operations - Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division can be associated with some important Steemian concepts that you need to familiarize yourself so you can swim better in this fantastic ocean (without being devoured !? haha…)  here comes the fantastic four:

Addition 加法

• Payouts: You get pay when you post and someone upvotes you, someone with enough SP. Adding their contribution together is your pay. Some said that  post payout is involved with multiplication as two whales voting for you is bigger than two posts voted by each of them.. true… but you will get to learn that minnows like us… Addition actually is a better fit of what you can get. 發帖有人點讚就有收入，把這些點讚者的貢獻相加就是你的收入。等你長大一點或是文章受歡迎了，請看乘法。


• Followers: We all love to have followers… To accumulate your followers, you can only post to increase your exposure and get followers one by one, which is addition! 粉絲是大家都想要有的，沒有別的好辦法，一步一腳印，好好發帖增加可能的粉絲，這還是加法概念的。

Subtraction 減法

• Downvote or Flagging: Well, for such a energetic place like Steemit, it is not easily to find concepts associated with negative conotations. Still, where there is people, there is room for penalty. Downvoting can be considered to be a kind of subtraction as you can see why upvote is addition. Be careful, you, as minnows, wouldn’t want to use this and most important - avoid bad behaviors so you won’t be flagged! 在這裡要找減法比較難，因為Steemit剛在發展總是比較正面，不過嘛，有人就有江湖，就得維持秩序，那downvote或是稱為flag就是一種管理方式。小魚兒們還是別嘗試，管理不干你事，避免行為脫軌被管理才是正辦！

Multiplication (the most important concept here!) 乘法，最重要的概念

• High Payouts: as explained earlier, when you grow up to be a hotshot, you will get to know that your payout is now enjoying ‘multiplication’! Congratulations! 等你文章進入3位數高收益了，那可能就是乘法了！恭喜，自己去研究公式吧！


• SP: Steem Power is a sacred thing here. It represents your share in this open platform, your asset, your influence… almost everything important here. Do you know your SP grows at the speed of 0.6% EVERYDAY!? That’s a weekly 4%, monthly 20%, yearly 200% rate! That is if you don’t post and curate you will still get this much (for the 2nd year on, this rate might decrease). Use this property wise, and you can swim a long way here! SP是這裡最神聖的代表，代表你對這裡的股份、資產與影響力，幾乎就是所有一切。你知道即使你不發帖、不點讚，你的SP還是每天增值0.6%嗎？每周就4%，每月20%，每年超過200%！當然Steem價格可能會變化，但SP的高乘法特性是你一定要知道的！


• Connections: well, this one is not solely for Steemit. But it is defintiely relevant here. If you make more friends here, it is easier for you to make more friends! 人脈在那兒都重要，而且具有乘法特性，人脈越廣越容易人脈更廣，饒舌吧！？在這裡也是一樣的！

Division 除法

• Spirit of Sharing: Yeah, there are a lot of examples here that manifest the act of sharing is abundant here at Steemit. One of the most prominent example is the #RobinhoonWhale Project (check @robinhoodwhale for details and you might benefit too!). People gather together to create value and divide it among authors and shareholders. So nice! 除法可以說是分享的精神，在這裡有很多例子，其中最出名的就是 #RobinhoonWhale Project 請點 @robinhoodwhale 看看他們如何運作，cn區大神 @laonie 是重要成員。彼此相互幫助，一起創造價值，然後助人者(RHW)與受助者(作者)共享價值分成，這是除法精神的表現啊！

大家應該都知道上周剛剛上線的Promote功能了吧？你或許只是小魚，看到那些金額後，可能感嘆這不是窮魚兒們可以玩的功能… 我要告訴你…

你錯了！！

這篇就要告訴你為何你也可以好好利用它。不知道怎麼玩的話，可以先看大嘴蛙哥哥的指南。

• 首先，沒有SP你有時間，這是窮魚的特色，也是Steemit的原始精神，大家被上天賦予的時間都是一樣多。花時間在哪呢？好好找找你使用的tag當中promoted那一頁的使用情況，像是我剛剛看cn區的，如下，空空如也！

同樣地，你還用了其他tag，也可以去看看情況。即使不是空的，或許也數量少，你可以用非常低的金額去promote你的帖

• 其次，也是本帖精華：你要花多少錢promote？千萬不要競爭，一旦競爭就不是小魚遊戲了，何必浪費錢？先利用第一點找出可以利用的tag頁面，在考慮金額。獨家秘密是什麼？   當你找到空白或只有1-2帖的promoted頁面時，你可以用最低多少金額來promote？不是$1，不是$0.1，不是$0.01，不是$0.001，根據我測試結果，答案是

$0.0005 !!

再低可能就不行，會有錯誤訊息（我有測$0.0004不行，還沒有測試$0.00049這類的，有興趣者可測試回報）。

$0.0005是什麼概念？就是如果你賺到了$1，你可以用上2000次！前提是你找到可以用的地方… 怎麼樣，這是小魚的遊戲吧？

看看我怎麼用了$0.0009+$0.0005+$0.0005=$0.0019就把上面的空白頁變成這樣（選幾個畫畫的帖好看），你也做得到的！

UPDATE: 我剛剛發現其實Wallet還是會至少扣$0.001，所以以上只是輸入金額時可以，所以，最低金額是$0.001。這裡面有bug。請注意一下！但大致說法都還是成立的。

最後，由於promote是零和競爭的，所以大家都知道的話就會有更多人用，或許cn區頁面就不容易再空白，但你還是可以去別tag區找找，因為這個小秘訣沒有翻譯成英文，應該還可以好好用上一陣子！當然，提醒一下，promote功能是一旦使用就適用所有tag的（因為是針對文章）。

昨天的周末咖啡廳猜謎不太成功，兩人回答了星巴克，只有 @ace108 針對哪間店回答了上海城隍廟，很可惜答錯了（等一下會更新，$1還沒送出啊！）。可能是獎太小了，也可能是真的沒人認出來。原本我以為cn區應該很有可能有人認得的，或是有人用技術可以輕鬆辨識類似相片而找到。但總之有可能獎太低。我想反正周末還沒過，再試一次好了！

Yesterday my weekend giveaway is not really successful as only two answered the easy question and only my friend @ace108 tried to answer the 2nd prize question but failed … Maybe it is because the prize is too low and maybe really no one can recognize. Originally I thought someone in the cn community would know OR if anyone bother to use some fancy technology to search similar photos on internet would get it right. As it is still weekend, I think why not experiment a little bit again with another nice cafe that I have been to… 

這次我再找一間我去過的咖啡廳，然後做兩個改變：1) 標題強調獎勵而不是經驗分享；2) 提高獎額到$5SBD。看看這次效果如何，或許所謂attention真的是價格不低啊！

So what I have done is 1) edit the title to stress “giveaway” rather than experience sharing and 2) raise the prize to $5 SBD. Let’s see how this one goes… maybe after all, users’ attention is really a pricey thing!!

關於這間咖啡廳。一樣是在中國某個大城市，在某一棟歷史建築裡。這座城市也很有名，這裡的咖啡很貴，品質當然是很好。上次我在這裡待了1個小時左右，只點一杯拿鐵，讀完當地的一份報紙，在這裡等老婆去附近買東西。不能多說了，以免太容易猜。只貼一張圖以免洩漏太多，趕快拿起放大鏡來參與調查吧！希望這次能很快送出$5塊！

Need to share the experience too. You can look for hints here too. This cafe is situated in a historical building in China. The city is very famous. Coffee is not cheap here but of course the quality is very good. I spent one hour here waiting for my wife to return from her shopping. Only ordered a coffee latte and enjoyed it with a local news paper - you will see all of these after the answer is revealed! I deliberately post only one photo at first so as not to give away too much information. After all, it is a $5 game!! Enjoy your Sunday investigation!!

At weekends I’d like to share something relaxing. Take a look at this cafe. So beautiful and relaxing, isn’t it? I was here early this year and had a great 2 hour coffee break and a wonderful memory here. I especially like the fact that it is renovated from a old house and the big window with an old tree just outside. 

週末愉快，分享一些輕鬆的。這是我今年早些時候去過的一間咖啡廳，非常美，我在這裡待了快兩小時，思考閱讀，氣氛非常舒適。我尤其喜歡的是這是一間老是房舍改裝的，他們還把老樹留下，在落地窗前展現姿態，向咖啡旅行者訴說古老的故事。

Two days ago, as the dev team introduced Promoted Content, many Steemians were so excited and tried this new feature including me. When I found out that posts older than one day can also be promoted, I thought this could be a bug as the above post did not mention this. So I thought why not give it a try as I really wanted to give my old posts a second chance. But I knew it was a fluky move. So I did not put serious money into it either - probably $7 for a dozen posts. These old posts all showed up on the promoted pages (mostly under specific tags as my money is small) but soon I saw @jesta ‘s kind reminder warning that this would lead to a one-vote only result. I then knew that my money was gone but felt so funny that I wanted to fool the system but get fooled! It is not big money anyway.

This morning just 2 hours ago, I saw my wallet get refund from the system (actually from @zaebars - why?!) with a memo saying “refund for a post promotion bug”. I do feel a little bit embarrassed and moved as I did know my risk when doing these but the platform is very decent to refund the money. Thank you so much! So I have to let more people know this: Steemit is a honest platform!!

What about efficient?! Aside from “refunding” the moeny so quickly, they have also fixed a bug that I mentioned under the first post about being able to “promote” a “reply”. They have found and fixed it maybe just a little more than 24 hours! That’s very efficient, don’t you think!? 

Lately, I have been too negative about things going on here, but these actions by the platform along with @jamielefay the Steemit novelist’s postive remarks to me has made me positive and optimistic again! Like I once said - “promise a journey, not just a sprint“. Come on! Steem on!

An Update! Could anyone who plans to upvote this post check the following post and upvote there instead of here as that post deserves much much more than mine!
