Hey everyone, have you tried pastilla? Right, it’s that pie in my plate here! I tried a couple of different pastillas in Morocco, and this one was served in a snack & juice bar called Kaowa in Marrakech. The place is located right opposite the popular garden - Yves Sant Laurent’s Jardin Majorelle.
This cozy and contemporary space is designed by renowned architect Imaad Rahmouni. Except for serving a wide range of fresh meals and soft drinks, it’s attached to a retail store that sells beautiful artworks. The staff here are warm and friendly, and the prices are quite reasonable considering its great location.

I ordered a pastilla dish for my lunch. Pastilla is a traditional Moroccan pastry that are also commonly found in other countries of the Maghreb.
This type of pie with a sugared crust is of Andalusian origin, typically filled with spiced pigeon meat and apricots. However, most of the pastillas I tried had chicken meat inside, like this one in my photo. They are usually pretty sweet. I personally preferred those more savory ones with seafood inside.
