Hello my friends, how’s your weekend going? My schedule is pretty full and I’ve been having a neck pain these days, so I’m not writing much today but just posting some photos from my phone.

I’m going to show you a beautiful spot I visited in Salvador, Brazil.

These pictures were shot close to Farol da Barra Lighthouse at the southern tip of the colorful coastal city. Originally built at Santo António Fort in the 1690s, this site has been long attracting visitors together with its charming surroundings. It is open to visitors from 9am to 6pm except for Monday, but you can come enjoy the nice beach, the sea breeze and the scenic views with slender palm trees 🌴 anytime you want.

I loved the brilliant sunset over the lighthouse, and oh how I miss the huge fresh coconuts! 🥥 :)

So this is my look on the way to the almighty Sahara dunes. :D The blue tagelmust on my head was bought from a Berber vendor at the roadside. It is an indigo-dyed cotton garment that acts as both a veil (see my second photo below) and a turban. He told me the blue’s a lucky color for the Berber men in the desert.

Ok, though I’m neither a Berber nor a man, this long piece of fabric was pretty handy to shield the incredibly strong wind, scorching sun and spreading sand. I’m glad that I went local, and the color scheme of my outfit was even in line with the environment. :)

##
At first I looked like this:

I saw the theme of this week’s @portraitcontest is Fashion, so I’d like to join it too, but I’m not sure if it qualifies? It’s not a typical fashion shot in a studio. No fancy dress, no fine makeup, no artificial lighting… just a portrait of me in some Berber fashion and with genuine smile. I didn’t act cool like a model as the surrounding nature was way cooler… ;)

All of a sudden these “wise” words popped up in my mind:

How do you get a beach body?
Have a body + go to the beach

##
Actually the blueish lake behind me is more impressive than my blue turban, isn’t it? It’s a reservoir close to Errachidia. Once again, I was impressed by the joined force of our Mother Nature and the humans. The reservoir is called Lake Hassan Eddakhil. It is situated at Foum Rhour on the Ziz river in Morocco’s Tafilalet province.

Construction work on the dam was conducted from 1968 to 1971, in order to regularise the wadi to develop the agriculture in the Ziz valley, as well as to provide flood protection. But as always, a dam also causes sustained environmental impacts.

This elderly man was walking in front of me in the medina of Tétouan, Morocco. He’s wearing a Fez hat and a traditional long robe djellaba which is commonly seen in the Maghreb region of North Africa.

This type of robe is usually made of either cotton for summer wear or coarse wool for the winter. I’ve frequently seen flocks of sheep when traveling in the surrounding Atlas mountains where the wool is typically obtained.

The baggy hood with a point at the back can protect the wearer from the sun, the snow and rain or the sand blown by strong desert wind.

It’s not a typical street fashion by an urban youth (though in recent years quite a lot of designers have been inspired by these robes to create modern kaftans), but this local man in the traditional wear just blends perfectly with the charming old streets. What do you think?

The head image is my entry to @worldcapture’s People Photography Contest week #24. Below is the photo in original colors joining the @portraitcontest themed Fashion.

Hey everyone, here’s a meal I had last weekend - Dorado fish with crab risotto and asparagus. It’s my entry for the Tasty Tuesday competition by @qurator.

##

The Dorado fish meat is tender and a bit sweet. It is low on fat and pretty firm in texture. Its mild flavor goes very well with the more salty and rich crab risotto underneath. The crunchy marsh samphire (glasswort, sea bean, pickleweed, picklegrass) and the two types of asparagus add a fresh taste to the dish. You can smell the spring!

The white asparagus has a hint of bitterness and is softer than the green one. It’s also more expensive as a result of the more time-consuming growing method. They have to be buried underground to avoid any sunlight which would turn them green. I personally prefer the grassy green asparagus than the more fibrous white one. What about you? And some call the marsh samphire sea asparagus, so there are 3 types of asparagus in this plate! :)

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing a picture shot with my phone in Singapore. It’s my entry for the Photo Friday competition.

I was walking around by the Marina Bay with my mom when we caught a sudden and heavy tropical shower. It only lasted for a short while, and afterwards we got to see this spectacular scene. Do you see the rainbow there? If not, open your eyes wider and look hard! ;) I hate that I didn’t bring a decent camera with me at that moment to catch the amazing rainbow colors.

Over the vibrant bougainvillea, you can clearly view the signature structure of Marina Bay Sands and the lotus-shaped Art Science Museum, both touched by the warm sunlight. :)

#255 Toxic? | ζ―’θ˜‘θ‡ My entry for the 🐜 7 DAYS MACRO-PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST 3 🐜

auhd092szp.jpg

Following my last post, here’s another photo I took as my entry to the 7 DAYS MACRO-PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST 3 🐜 hosted by @flamingirl.

My first impression of this bright red mushroom dotted with white spots might come from the classic Super Mario Bros, and the mushroom house of Smurfs. :) And I did spot this mushroom in Belgium, birth place of the famous Smurfs.

##

##
This type of mushroom is called Amanita muscaria — commonly known as fly agaric, or fly amanita. Though considered toxic to humans, the compound muscimol it contains could make people feel less anxious and more relaxed. So the fly agaric has been used in religious practices for their hallucinogenic properties, especially in Siberia. That’s why it has been associated with the rituals of northern European and Asiatic shamans.

A few more I found at the same place:
