#248 Signs (1) |

Inspired by @kus-knee’s Show Me a Sign contest, I’ve digged out an old picture from my phone and will also present you another sign photo freshly taken in my current trip.

##

##
The first picture here was shot in Castro, a city on Chiloé Island in Chile. It’s known for its colorful wooden stilt houses (palafitos) and churches. I loved this quiet and peaceful place that had so many creative and unique architectures to offer.

This sign is of a Chilean style Cevichería restaurant, and oh how I miss the Peruvian ceviches! I had the fresh delicious treat almost every week when living in Chile ~ Qué rico! :)

The simple sign adds a playful touch to the traditional wooden house, and its name and the fish indicate the restaurant’s signature dish, the typical element of Chilotan architecture palafitos, and its location right by the Pacific Ocean.

Here’s another sign ( actually 2 if you also count the one behind) I just captured when visiting Chefchaouen. It’s a colorful place as well but much more touristic. It’s in the Rif Mountains of northwest Morocco and is known for the old town’s blue-painted buildings.

Still some distance from the Sahara Desert, but this lovely sign did match the blue background and successfully caught my attention.

##
What do you think of these signs? Do you have interesting signs to share? Feel free to join the fun contest too!

#247 Only in Australia (1) - the Big Prawn 🦐 |

##
Thanks to the mention by the very talented photographer @lightcaptured, I got to know his 4th #TravelPhotoContest themed Landmarks. So the first thing popping up in my mind is not the super famous landmarks I’ve visited like Great Wall, Machu Picchu, Christ the Redeemer, Eiffel Tower, Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Statue of Liberty, Sydney Opera House, or Moai on the Easter Island🗿(I know, I’m such a typical tourist right? ;p It’s a great idea for a series of Landmark posts though, so I’m listing them here for future ;)), but a huge prawn 🦐 erected in a small town in Australia.

Also, I’m traveling now without access to most of my past camera photos, yet the pictures of this Big Prawn taken with my phone are lying there still (no pun intended). So here they are - a dedication to my lovely memories in Straya 🇦🇺, this amazing country that I will for sure go back one day. :)

The statue is in Ballina, a town located in New South Wales, serving as a gateway to the popular site Byron Bay. Built in 1989 and reopened in 2013 with a makeover, the Big Prawn is another of Australia’s iconic big things. There are also Big Pineapple, Big Banana, Big Peach… but I didn’t stop to take decent pictures of them.

This Big Prawn is situated adjacent to Bunnings Warehouse on River Street and have attracted road trippers like us.

#246 Beef Tajine 🍲😋 |

uziav7m8s7.jpg

##
This is the beef Tajine I had yesterday in Morocco. The dried apricots and prunes added a sweet taste to it, and they were a perfect match to the soft succulent beef. Scoop up the rich tasty gravy with the bread aside - it’s simply heaven! :)

##

##
Tajine is a popular dish primarily prepared in the Middle East and North Africa. It’s named after the shallow earthen pot in which it is cooked. In North Africa it is called a Tajine/Tagine, while in the Middle East it is called a maraq (meaning broth) or a qidra (the cooking pot).

##

##
As there are quite a lot of Moroccan immigrants in Belgium, restaurants that serve Tajine can also be found there. I tried beef and chicken Tajine before a few times, but it’s my first time in Morocco. They have always been such a hearty delight to enjoy. =)

##
Beautiful decorative pots I found on the street:

What about you? Have you tried Tajine? Do you like it?

It’s my entry to @qurator’s Tasty Tuesday competition. Join the fun too if you like food and photography!

#245 Cityscape of Tétouan 🇲🇦 |

##
This is the view of Tétouan from a hilltop. The northern Moroccan city lies along the Martil Valley and is my first major stop after landing on the African continent from the strait of Gibraltar.

##
I enjoyed walking around this “white city”. As you can see from my photos, white buildings clustered on the side of the verdant Riff mountains, with some red, yellow and green roofs.

##
Tétouan is one of the two major Mediterranean ports of Morocco and is the administrative capital of the country’s Spanish zone. Many locals here speak Arabic, French and Spanish. I feel like I’m back to multilingual Belgium again! :)

##

##
Not so famous as Chefchaouen, Fez or Marrakesh, it has its unique charm. Its entire old medina is recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site. And it has been part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the area of Crafts and Folk Art. Enough proof huh?

Much more experiences and closeup photos from my camera are coming in the future when faster stable internet is available. =)

#243 Fear & Fun 🇵🇪 |

If you have been to Cusco of Peru, you might have visited the famous site of Sexywoman (Saqsaywaman). It is a citadel on the northern outskirts of the Inca Empire’s historic capital.

At the site, I tried sliding down the massive stone slopes, just like what the boy’s doing in my photos. I loved the changing emotions shown clearly on his face. :) Imagine the thrill and fun we had at this amazing natural playground of the Inca!

This collage is my entry to @ntopaz’s Emotive Art contest. Below are the 2 original photos:

Here’s how the stone slides look like. Apparently the boy enjoyed it and couldn’t wait to have more. ;)
