#242 Just a Beach 🏝 πŸ‡²πŸ‡½ | ζ₯ε—ζ΅·ζ»©ο½ž

The local host couple brought me to this beautiful beach in Cancún, Mexico. We had a great time here. The place is kind of a gem in the very touristic city. Cancún is also a popular destination for students during universities’ spring break period.

But it’s touristic for a good reason right? Soft white sand, forever blue sky, and the aqua-blue Caribbean sea with crystal clear water. A tropical paradise. =)

#241 Pray for Sri Lanka πŸ‡±πŸ‡° | ζ–―ι‡Œε…°ε‘ηš„η₯ˆη₯·

The horrible attacks in Sri Lanka reminds me of my happy time spent in the country. Without any doubt, this sad news would heavily impact the local tourism as well. As a tourist in Sri Lanka, my experience was lovely and enjoyable. In fact, I mentioned a few times in my previous posts that Sri Lanka is one of my favorite travel destinations, and I will surely visit it again in future.

I took this photo at a buddhist temple in a small village of the tea country. People bought fresh flowers from the nearby vendors as offerings. They lit incense sticks and then prayed in front of them. It is my entry to the Emotive Art contest hosted by @ntopaz.

Here’s the photo of original size before cropped by the site:

I once posted another photo from the same place:

斯里兰卡这几天的连环恐怖袭击很让人痛心,肯定也会对当地旅游业造成巨大打击。我不止一次提过它的好,说这是我最喜欢的旅行目的国之一,甚至想过在气候宜人的茶乡长住,将来也一定会再去那里看看。

This is Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) in the Atacama Desert region of northern Chile. Its barren terrain is not so friendly for living, but I was totally smitten by its unique wild beauty when traveling there. Known for its moonlike landscape, this valley is located within Los Flamencos National Reserve.

The warm-toned rolling dunes, rugged mountains and special rock formations all attract visitors from afar. From the nearby town of San Pedro de Atacama, you can hike or bike along the trails leading to the valley.

Deserts are not so deadly dead as I imagined. ;) On the contrary, they are pretty enchanting. So after visiting some deserts in different parts of our beautiful earth, I have been charmed to crave for more (despite being deadly burned ;p). And I’m going to the Sahara soon! Woohoo~ can’t wait!

What about you? Have you been impressed by deserts in your travels? What deserts do you recommend to travel to?

#239 DIY with Donica: Make a Silver Ring πŸ”¨πŸ’| θ‡ͺε·±ζ‰“ι€ ι“Άζˆ’ζŒ‡

ntopaz-image-0

##
Greetings everyone! I once joined a metalworking workshop in Antwerp and made a silver ring. Yeah, Antwerp is known as a diamond city, but a plain silver ring is much cheaper and easier to make. ;) Here are the steps I followed:

##
大家周末好~ 这次分享的是我在安特卫普的一家金属手工作坊学习打造银戒指的过程。从不规则银条开始,到最后打磨为成品,自己手作戒指真是充满乐趣和成就感呀~ :)

##

##
1.
Cut off a silver strip and flatten the rough edges with a hand file.

2.
Put that precious piece of silver bar into acid bath for cleaning.

3.
Hammer the silver bar into a round(ish) shape - not an easy job, but so much fun to try this for the first time! :D

4.
Solder the open silver round strip with another tiny piece of silver to close the loop. This brazing requires quite some skills and patience. I wouldn’t have achieved it without the experienced master’s help.

5.
Then it comes to the most time and energy consuming part! I had to hammer the silver loop hard over a mandrel to make it more round and get the nice facets. So the whole workshop room was filled with the beautiful hammering soundsnoises for a long time (not only from me, but also from other enthusiastic apprentices. ;D) After the hard work of hammering, my ring formed some unique metal facets. Then I used the sand paper (in the middle picture 5) to deburr the edges.

6.
At last, polish the ring with a polishing wheel.

##
So that’s it! My handmade, one of a kind silver ring is born!

##
Except for the fun and joy of making it by myself, I especially like the shiny metal facets from the aaaaarduous hammering. ;) It gives a special personal touch to the ring. To me, it’s more valuable than even a diamond ring.

Do you like it too? Have you tried doing metal work or making other crafts by yourself? If you have, you can also join the Handmade & Craft Design contest by @ntopaz! =)

#238 Notre-Dame Before the FireπŸ”₯ πŸ‡«πŸ‡· | ζ›Ύη»ηš„ε·΄ι»Žεœ£ζ―ι™’

Hello everyone! You might have heard of the Notre Dame Cathedral fire? Here I’m sharing some images of Norte-Dame de Paris through my lens. The first photo is my entry to Qurator’s Photo Friday competition. Since I have lived in Belgium, Paris is just a few hours away. I was fortunate to have visited this famous cathedral in its city centre a couple of times. The photos below were taken by me in 2013 and 2014. 2013 happened to be the 850th anniversary of Norte-Dame.

Actually I have traveled to most regions of France, but I just realized I have only done 1 post about this neighbor 🇫🇷 since I joined Steem in 2017. I guess we sometimes take the familiar for granted, right? If it’s not this devastating blaze in Paris, I might have left the Notre-Dame photos behind in my drive for even longer. Hopefully the rebuilding would start soon and go well.
