I had a delicious meal in a local specialty restaurant in Überlingen, a German city on the northern shore of Lake Constance.

It’s called Schwabenpfännle (the fourth choice on their menu below) - grilled pork fillets with mushroom sauce, spätzle and lettuce salad. Although the yellow egg noodles (Spätzle) themselves didn’t have much taste, they soaked the rich mushroom and meat gravy to offer very satisfying bites.

Except for southern Germany and Austria, Spätzle is also found in the cuisines of Switzerland, Hungary, Alsace, Moselle and South Tyrol. Literally meaning “little sparrows” in German, it is a kind of pasta made with fresh eggs. Spätzle doesn’t only accompany meat dishes, but also act as a primary ingredient in other types of food. For instance, I tried Spätzle in soup when traveling in Hungary and ate it sweet with sugar and cinnamon in Alsace.

When I visited the famous Dutch garden Keukenhof during spring time, various types of gorgeous flowers were blooming. So I had a feast to my eyes and camera cards. :) This ravishing fringed tulip in my photo is called Tulipa Cummins. The classic goblet shape and violet purple tint are not uncommon. What caught my attention was its finely incised snow-white edges.

I focused on its extravagantly fringed petals when shooting, since this unique feature made it stand out from other types of tulips. Its ornate fringe comes from mutations in tulips of different categories.

Tulipa Cummins usually bloom at mid to late spring, and they stay vibrant pretty long in the garden and vase.

这次分享的是一种叫“康明斯”的郁金香🌷，鲜黄的花蕊、紫红的花瓣和雪白的锯齿状边缘让它从花丛中脱颖而出，成功抓住我的眼球和镜头。

我拍照时聚焦在它别具一格的花瓣末端上，调大光圈虚化了绿叶和后面的几朵花。这种郁金香一般在春天的中期到晚期开花，不管是种在土里还是插在水中，都能持续鲜艳挺长一段时间，好看又好养。

Greetings everybody! Following my last post of desert flowers, today I’m presenting another type - the cactus🌵 flower.

I shot these photos off the Pacific Coast of Chile, in Atacama region. As I mentioned in my last post, this area is one of the driest places in the world. Since some parts are between the Andes Mountains and the Chilean Coast Range, the moisture from either the Pacific or the Atlantic Oceans is prevented. So you can imagine how hot and arid it is here.

I was totally burned traveling through the Atacama, but at the same time very impressed by the wild beauty of this vast land and the tenacious vitality of the thriving plants such as these cacti and their flowers.

Hey everyone! Today I’m sharing some flower photos I shot in the Atacama desert region of Chile.

Most part of the Atacama Desert is situated on the Pacific coast of Chile, west of the Andes mountains. This area is one of the driest places as well as the only true desert in the world to receive less precipitation than the polar deserts. The average annual rainfall here is about 15 mm (0.6 in), although some weather stations have never received rain.

In spite of the extreme conditions of the desert, some flowers like the white one in my pictures are still blooming. This small slim flower might not be as pretty as many other types, but what an extraordinary ability it has to adapt to this harsh environment! I have no idea what it is called. Anyone knows please tell me in the comment. :)

今天分享的是我在智利北部的阿塔卡马沙漠地带拍的花。这是地球上最干热的地方之一，整块地区全年平均降雨量只有15毫米，很多地方历史上没有任何降水。

这种细小的白花不如很多其他花朵那么鲜艳饱满，但在这种严酷的沙漠环境下，它们顽强的生命力让我不由自主地拍了好几张。

Greetings everyone! Following my previous post of Spring is in the air!(1) with loads of flower photos I took, here I’m sharing another type of spring flower - cherry blossom. It’s my entry to Qurator’s Photo Friday competition and Flamingirl’s 🌸 FLOWER POWER PHOTO CONTEST.

Do you know an obvious difference between the cherry flower and the plum/peach flower? As you can see from the emoji and my photos, cherry blossoms’ petals have a cleft at the tip, while the other 2 don’t. At least, this is some unique feature that I observe to tell them part. =) Besides, cherry blossoms have longer stems than peach blossoms, and plum blossoms literally have no stems as they grow out from the branch itself.

I found these trees near my home in Belgium during a cycling trip. They are full of gorgeous white to pink blossoms. Cherry blossoms have a short life of around two weeks, and are in full bloom in spring time, so they are a symbol of the spring and the fleeting nature of life.

When I was taking pictures of these flowers a few days ago, the blossoms already started to fall, so the ground under the trees was covered by a carpet of soft petals. One man working in his garden nearby saw me and greeted me: “Hey, are you from Japan? I believe these flowers are from Japan.” :)

I told him I’m not, but cherry blossom trees and their blossoms (Sakura) do play an important role in Japanese culture. Each spring, my friends who live in Japan would show me photos and videos of people enjoying Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) picnic party. During their national flower’s bloom season, Japanese people celebrate this old tradition with friends, families and co-workers underneath the cherry trees.

Hey, this is my dinner today - tagliatelle with prawns. I had this in a ski resort in the Austrian Alps. It’s my entry to @qurator’s Tasty Tuesday competition.

这是我今天的晚餐 —— 虾仁意面，在奥地利滑雪的阿尔卑斯小山村的一家餐馆点的。一端上来觉得卖相还不错，就拍了两张照片。然鹅，吃到嘴里才发现不是我喜欢的味道，主料都寡淡无味，而奶酪奶油却过于浓稠地喧宾夺主。

当然，这里是山区，那些红肉山珍类的才是主打，特别是伴有蘑菇肉汁的主菜，料理好的话可以让人回味无穷、唇齿留香。 谁让我不知趣地想吃海鲜，还是伴着非本土的意呆利宽面…… 碰运气失败，其实也在意料之中，中西欧这边的很多菜都非常腻，奶酪奶油就跟不要钱似地狂加，常常盖过了食物本身的鲜美。我还是偏爱意大利西班牙葡萄牙那边海鲜面/饭的清爽原味。

但是我吃不惯，不意味着别人也不喜欢。好多次跟法国比利时荷兰德国瑞士等地方的人聚餐，他们都是各种粘稠奶酪奶油拌出来的东西吃得津津有味，超市饭店的主食里黏乎乎的浓白汤汁也常占去大半壁江山。就像我曾经觉得不吃辣的人简直错失人生一大乐趣呀，而不吃辣的人也觉得我干嘛没事自虐啊。你之蜜糖，我之砒霜。

又想起穿越西伯利亚的途中，在俄罗斯的伊尔库茨克停留了几天，其中一天，我和当地的host还有他的一位非洲朋友一起开车去看大名鼎鼎的贝加尔湖。在一望无际的湖边，那位高大威猛的黑人哥们儿教我们玩他随身携带的摇摆平衡软板。我看他很有运动天赋，觉得他大概跟我一样也喜欢户外活动、喜欢亲密接触大自然。

所以，接着聊到周边的森林时，我问他：“你喜欢徒步吗？” 他愣了一下，随即笑得前仰后合，上气不接下气地说：“姑娘，我们黑人的字典里没有 ‘徒步’ 这个词，我就从来没有徒过步。”

那一刻，我的内心是震（醍醐）惊（灌顶）的，震惊的不是知道了黑人原来不徒步这位兄台，我也见过徒步的黑人好吗，只是细想一下确实很少，震惊的是为什么我会无知到窃以为天下人都徒步呢？毕竟，世界如此广阔，喜好如此繁多。
