##
I visited Valparaíso, the charming port city on Chile’s coast when living in the country’s capital Santiago. It’s a bit over 1 hour by car from Santiago, and there are plenty of public buses connecting the 2 cities as well.

Valparaíso boasts colorful houses along the hills and even more coloful graffiti all over the house walls. :) It’s called Chile’s Cultural Capital due to its booming art and culture scene. It’s great fun to take the steep funiculars to those hilltops, where you can visit the abundant beautiful architectures and artsy shops. Along your ride, you also get fantastic views of the buildings, the hills, the port and the vast Pacific ocean.

In this post, I’m showing you the views of the port I got after ascending to high up by a funicular. Valparaíso’s port is divided into ten sites, and the last two include a dock and are used as public walks and cruise passenger terminal. As a main container and passenger port in the country, it transfers 10 million tons each year, and serves about 50 cruises.

The city’s port received a large number of immigrants, primarily from Europe from 1848 till 1914. As a result, neighbourhoods of different styles were built on Valparaíso’s hillsides. Among these Historic Districts, the most prominant ones are legacies by the British, Germans, and Italians. Nowadays, they are preserved as “Zonas Típicas”.

#211 Opposing Beauty (3) |

ntopaz-image-0

Hello everyone! Here’s my 3rd entry to the Opposing Beauty photo contest by @ntopaz. It was during a business trip in Chile when it’s raining heavily.

The rain drops kept hitting the car window, and I found some interesting contrasts and textures in the frame - the soft fragile flowing rain water VS. the hard firm fixed window glass. So I took out my phone and shot this picture from outside. :)

#210 Addis Ababa (1) |

The sad news of Ethiopian Airlines plane crash these days has brought my memory back to my solo trip in Ethiopia.

I flew with the same airline from Sao Paulo of Brazil to the capital of Ethiopia in 2017, and traveled 2 weeks in the country.

So I’m going to share some photos I took there. The one you see in this post was shot at the street of its largest city Addis Ababa.

I walked past a dozen construction sites and was on my way to Red Terror Martyrs Memorial Museum. The owner of the guest house where I stayed suggested that I visit this place.

It was late afternoon. The lazy sun was hanging low in the sky. A warm shade was cast on the enormous overpass, vehicles, pedestrians and the shining wet ground. Heavy traffic, fumes and noises.

I stopped at the red light. 2 Muslim ladies in headscarf were crossing the wide road in that perfect lighting. As a photography enthusiast, I just couldn’t help capturing this moment. :)

A bit to the left (you can see Ethiopian Airlines’ logo at the top right corner):

#209 STEEM Food Tours #52 - Ramen 🍜 |

##
Greetings everyone! I had Tonkotsu ramen as dinner in an Asian restaurant called Kaishu in Maastricht last weekend. This type of ramen is famous for its rich broth made from simmered pork marrow or pork bone.

##

A good broth is supposed to be prepared by boiling the bones for around 10 hours or more. But I guess not every ramen restaurant has put this amount of time into it to get the real broth done, especially when it comes to some localized ones out of Japan.

##
According to Seriouseats:

You often see ramen categorized into four classes: shio (salt), shoyu (soy sauce), miso (fermented bean paste), and tonkotsu (pork), which doesn’t make particular sense, as the first three are flavorings, while the fourth is the broth base.

##
To be honest, the soup of this ramen I ordered was not so rich as I expected, but it’s a full photogenic bowl, and I was grateful that I found this heartwarming tasty food in a frigid windy night. 😋

#208 Cook with Donica - Make a Savory Crepe |

##
Hi everyone! In this post I’m sharing my recipe of making a savory crêpe/galette. It’s inspired by the Chinese style pancakes at street stands across China, and donicanized by whatever I have at hand (as usual ;p). Hope you will enjoy it and give it try! Easy, tasty and healthy - it’s a great breakfast or brunch choice!

##
What I used:

##
Mix wheat flour, corn flour and water:

##
Slice the cucumber and spring onion:

##
Heat the pan and spread the dough:

##
Spread one egg over the dough, and sprinkle some spring onion and black sesame seeds on top:

##
Flip the crepe, and spread soybean paste and pickled veges (you can use other sauces like bbq sauce, curry sauce…)

##
Place whatever you want in the middle (I put salmon, bacon, cucumber, roquette, dofu slices and chips in different crepes):

##
Roll it:

Enjoy! :)

The tools below are what street vendors usually use in crafting the delicious pancakes. Perhaps I’ll buy a set too, and set up a street stand somewhere. What do you think of my idea? =)

Hey, here are the photos I took with my phone in Copacabana, a Bolivian town close to the border with Peru. That late afternoon, I was wandering around in town by Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable body of water.

Suddenly I discovered a narrow trail leading uphill, so I decided to explore where it would lead to. For some parts I had to use my hands to climb up the steep cliffs, and it’s not that easy to ascend in the very thin air.

BFAF345D-A092-437C-B0FF-9094B61DB232.jpeg

It turned out to be totally worthy - when I reached the hill top at sunset, the view was just breathtaking (quite literally too as I almost lost my breath ;p). The city’s colorful houses spreaded along the green hills, and the vast Lake Titicaca looked like an endless stretch of the deep blue sea.

You might have heard of the world-renowned Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro? In fact, that more famous cousin takes its name from this town. :) In the local language Aymara, Copacabana means “view of the lake”, deriving from “kota kawana”. Later in Rio, people found the shape of their beach resembled the crescent one here in Bolivia (as you can see in my photos), so they called it the same name.

The first photo is my entry to Qurator’s Photo Friday competition, and below is the location - you can get an idea of Lake Titicaca’s size:
