I’m in Sardinia of Italy and sharing a photo right from yesterday. :) It was close to Alghero at the island’s northwestern coast. It’s raining, raining and raining most of the time. The dark clouds were hanging low, and the strong waves crushed onto the rocky shores in the crazy heavy wind. Used to the clear tranquil water of the Mediterranean Sea, this turbulent scene was quite unexpected.

Chinese New Year and Spring Festival

In China, most working people will have a week holiday around the New Year, starting from New Year’s Eve or a bit earlier. This holiday is normally called Golden Week Holiday of Spring Festival. Just like the Christmas holiday for westerners, Spring Festival is of great importance for Chinese family reunions.

So why does the 2019 Chinese New Year land on February 5th instead of January 1st? It is because the Spring Festival in China is based on the lunar calendar, which is decided by the monthly cycles of the Moon’s phases, also known as synodic months. As a result, the Chinese New Year has no exact date each year, but it mostly falls on a day in January or February in Gregorian calendar, roughly the same dates of Aquarius sign in the Western Zodiac.

Actually, there’s also a Chinese Valentine’s Day(Qixi/Qiqiao Festival) originated from a beautiful romantic legend, which falls on the 7th day of the 7th month on the Chinese lunar calendar, so it’s usually some day in July or August in Gregorian Calendar.

And a fun fact: my birthday is February 7th, which always fell somewhere close to the Chinese New Year. :)

这只猫是我在智利首都圣地亚哥租住的第二间公寓里的小伙伴。他是房东 — 一位来自英国的女士在宠物買賣中心买的。因为她離家去度假，拜托我照顾她的小懒猫。这只猫很能吃，吃饱后喜欢在沙发背上或地毯上像zombie一样躺着，我常会担心他圆滚滚的身子卡在沙发和墙的缝隙里出不来，那可就糟糕啦~

我昨晚在一家香港老夫妇开的中餐馆吃饭，期间一直在播《潇洒走一回》这首歌，虽然那种老式MV超级搞笑，直让我喷饭，但这歌还是挺经典的回忆~ 民族调式、古典曲风，很有中国特色。我这里没什么华人，完全没有过年气氛，但这首怀旧的歌还是营造了一点新年气氛。好了，我这算把这歌跟新年主题扯到一起了吗 😂

而且回家后，这首歌的旋律一直在脑子里回荡（因为吃饭时听了太多遍），我想正好来唱唱这首歌参加“好声音”活动好了！我虽然学过电子琴，但一直对美术更感兴趣，自觉在音乐方面没什么天赋，也完全没有叶倩文那洒脱帅气的声线，大家听听就好，图个开心，不要笑我，哈哈。。。 祝大家🐖年快乐、大吉大利、万事如意、潇洒走一回！（请注意，这里是在参加小迪的造句活动二) 用任何三個新年賀詞造句 😄）

Greetings everyone! Time flies - I’ve joined Steemit for over a year, and I am grateful for many communities and friends that have been constantly supporting and inspiring me.

To celebrate this anniversary and to give back to the Steem community, I am hosting a cross-culture challenge. (Thanks @Partiko for sponsoring part of the rewards!) Let’s join some fun in this bear market! :)

So why a cross-culture challenge? ❓

Like I said in my intro post:

I’m most enthusiastic about traveling, photography, cooking, art… I believe any traveler understands this wanderlust - you just can’t have enough. By traveling far and wide, you discover new ways of living and understand other cultures to appreciate them, you constantly get inspired and would ultimately better yourself. Especially when you travel solo, you set yourself free and interact more with locals. You start to judge less and accept more.

I do, like many of you foodies there, take great pleasure in eating and cooking. And I try to learn cooking from different cultures during my travels, to spice up my own experiments on food fusion…

There is a great variety of cultures on this planet, and each culture has its own charm. Lived across 5 continets and traveled to over 60 countries, I have been mesmerised by all the different cultures. Steemians here come from all over the world with rich cultural backgrounds. It would be fun to exchange some ideas/photos/videos… Exchange makes change. Live and let live. So my challenge will focus on “cross-culture”.

To join this challenge, you just need to compare 2 or more cultures that you have experienced. Any form of content is welcome, you can write a short essay, post a photo story, create a drawing/painting/animation/design, share a quick video, record your voice of talking or singing… all fine! It would be great to hear your personal stories soaking up in different cultures. Share your inspiration with us!

Then what is culture? 🧐

Back in my uni course of Cultural Studies, there’s been heated discussion about what exactly culture is. To some extent, it seems almost everything can be seen as culture. To give you a bit inspiration, here’s one of the definitions:

Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts, etc..

So that’s it, just go pick a cultural topic (language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts, etc..) from 2 or more particular groups of people that you are familiar with, and show the differences to us in a certain form. “翻译腔”是指——将外国文学或影视作品翻译成中文时，一种特有的笔调或口吻，即全篇都是汉字，有时甚至出现一些汉语典故或俗语等，朗读（影视配音）时也是以标准的普通话，却透着一种莫可名状的“外国韵味”。举例说明：

欧美式翻译腔—— “嘿，村长，亲爱的老伙计！告诉我，你认为翻译腔怎么样？我敢打赌，你会感兴趣的。”
日式翻译腔—— “翻译腔吗？喔，即使已经译成本国的语言，却仍保持着异国的情调，那可是很难的工作呢。”

翻译腔的良性范例，是上译厂的经典译制片，翻译与配音的拿捏都恰到好处，“信达雅”。
翻译腔的恶性范例，是豆瓣影评上那些煞有介事，拿腔拿调的二手观后感，令人发指。
本帖是翻译腔的中性实例，以生活在美国的村龙 @ericet （用翻译腔）和香港市民豹哥 @honoru （用TVB经典台词）的一段对话，探讨语言的韵味和色彩。原来同一种语言，也可以“跨文化”。

本帖非常严肃，就像作者的性格一样过于认真。

龙：那可真是太棒了！知道吗，我简直能吃下一头牛。
豹：咁，下午茶我请。
龙：如果你不介意的话，我是说，如果我们都有时间的话，我倒更愿意喝上一杯。

Hey, today I’m sharing some shots I snapped in Santiago de Chile, where I lived a few years ago. From the Atacama in the North to the Patagonia in the South, Chile is a fascinating country with so much to offer. I was lucky enough to work in the capital and in the lovely city Concepción later.

I didn’t take so many photos in these 2 cities with my camera as I did when traveling to other destinations - I guess you know what I mean? Perhaps people take more pictures when they visit somewhere as a tourist, but kind of take it for granted and ignore the beauty around their living place. It’s great to see there are some challenges on Steemit to enrouge users to dicover and capture the moments in their daily life.

So here we go! First let’s have an overview of the city from a hilltop:

大家好~ 今天分享一些在智利首都圣地亚哥的随拍。因为看到@wherein的「 带我看看，你的城市」活动，动员大家“拍摄你的城市瞬间”，觉得很有意思。最喜欢分享照片啦，然鹅。。。我现在住的地方在郊区，说得好听点就是回归大自然，难听点就是鸟都不拉屎，并没有城市瞬间可以分享😆。所以我想，还是来发些以前住过的城市的照片，比如其中的智利首都，这也是我加入Steem的初衷 — 督促自己整理海量影像。废话不多说，先上总览图，也就是爬到山顶俯瞰城市的照片：

Cerro San Cristóbal is a hill offering a general view of Santiago. You can climb up on foot or take the funicular. The lookout area is also a great place to taste the traditional Chilean drink mote con huesillos (see the picture below).

Made of a kind of grain(mote), dried peach(huesillo) and sugary water, this cold drink is truly refreshing in the heat. You can find this popular drink all over the streets in Santiago during summer time. Compared to the strong cocktail classic Pisco claimed as a creation by both Peru and Chile, this sweet drink works more magic for me. :) I talked about it in this post if you are interested.

Besides, you can have fun at other sites on this hill, like the pools, the park, the zoo and the castle.

圣克里斯托巴山顶是一处俯瞰全城的宝地。当地人和游客都很喜欢来这个大自然公园玩耍。从下面的地图上可以看到，这片山上有动物园、圣母殿、游泳池、城堡等很多去处。自己爬上去或者坐缆车都可以。

山顶的凉亭里有贩卖智利国饮 - mote con huesillos（下图我喝的那杯）。以前在这个帖子里 (下面最后一张照片)讲过智利人和秘鲁人争抢的国饮 - 柠檬口味的皮斯科酸利口酒。而酒量不行如我，还是觉得这种传统的无酒精糖水更加清甜可口。它是用南美的小麦mote、干桃huesillo和糖水混合而成的。有点像薏米水，是智利夏天街头常见的消暑饮品。

It’s quite dry and sunny in summer time. So warm-toned photos are pretty common. As a result, the sunsets here are just brilliant. When it rains, the mostly snowcapped Andes mountains at the backdrop can be viewed more clear. It’s such a magnificent scene that appears frequently in postcards of the city.

这个城市离北边的沙漠地带不远，很干旱，夏天时经常是几个月都见不到一滴雨。也因此常有壮丽的落日景象。随便一拍就是暖色调，我喜欢，你呢？如果遇上罕见的雨水，远处苍莽连绵的安第斯山脉就越发清晰起来，白雪皑皑的群山环抱整座城的美景，也成为明信片上的常客。

This skyscraper is Costanera Center Torre 2, better known as Gran Torre Santiago (Great Santiago Tower). 64 stories, it is the tallest in Latin America. You can easily see this building from different corners of the city.

这座64层的高楼是圣地亚哥随处可见的地标，也是拉美最高的建筑。下面几层是商场，上面很多层空置，常年亏本。

Atop the hill, like Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer, La Virgen (Virgin Mary) and her sanctuary overlooks the city. Though not as stunning as the view of Rio with all the bays and the vast sea, you can still have a taste of nature and enjoy the picturesque vista with the towering Andean mountains standing in distance.

就像巴西里约热内卢山巅的基督像一样（我文末的拼图里有照片），这里的山顶也有圣母玛丽亚俯瞰着整座城市的芸芸众生。虽然看不到里约那种惊世的绝美风景，毕竟人家有山有海有浅湾，还有数不清的热辣美女在沙滩上嬉戏，确实有点难以匹敌啊；也没有纽约香港这种繁华大都市的满眼摩天楼，但远眺下那一座座宏伟的安第斯山，在苍松翠柏、棕榈繁花的掩映下，呼吸点干燥的新鲜空气也不赖呀~ =)

The following pictures are about the colorful streets/architectures in the city. They were mostly taken by an old crappy phone, so it might have hard time doing justice of the real vibrant colors there. :)

下面是一组反映多彩街道和建筑的随拍，因为是住在那里，也就很少带着相机到处拍，所以只是在路上看到什么有意思的就掏出小手机来咔嚓一下，而当时的手机已经是老古董，也许不能很好地还原那些多彩的瞬间。但号称南美最为保守的国家之一，在用色方面还是能亮瞎我们这些东亚人的眼，哈哈。。。倒是有点想念这片多彩的土地了~

At last, some pictures about a market, since it’s #marketfriday initiated by @dswigle. I’m happy to join this challenge and share some market fun! =)

My first appartment in Santiago is not far from Mercado Central de Santiago. You can buy fresh fish and seafood here, as well as dining in the food court indoors.

Another popular produce market is La Vega Central. This lively expansive place will ensure you a full-on sensory experience, with all those diverse sights, smells and sounds.

The fresh produce I miss the most from Chile is the avocado (they call it “palta” there) - so cheap, fresh and tasty! Also, cherries, stawberries, chirimoya, lúcuma, Maqui berries… 😍 But since I saw myself as a local when living next to a big market, I didn’t take decent pictures there despite visiting it often. So I will share much more market photos in future from other places, such as the artstic city nearby - Valparaíso (because I went there as a tourist ;p)!

最后这几张是关于水果摊的。当时在圣地亚哥的第一间公寓就租在一个大市场旁边，作为一个圣地亚哥的“当地人”，几乎每天去那里买菜的我，是不屑于像个傻傻的游客一样到处瞎拍的，所以几乎没有找到什么市场的照片😆。下次会分享作为“游客”去旁边的嬉皮小城Valparaíso拍的市场，作为港口城市，那里的市场规模更大，沿着码头一字排开，很值得一看。智利有着长长的海岸线，一般的生鲜市场都是除了瓜果蔬菜、海鲜鱼肉之外，会有很多小餐馆现做美食，食客可以坐下狂吃，就像亚洲商场里的food court，只是类似多数西餐，大多寡淡无味。

无论如何，我还是很想念很想念智利的牛油果牛油果的，看看下图就知道了，简直无处不在，新鲜好吃还便宜！跟西北欧这些超市里卖的干硬无味的表弟们完全不可同日而语。就像当地人一样，几乎每顿都会甩开膀子吃个够。还有还有，大樱桃、大草莓、番荔枝(释迦果)、蛋黄果、马基莓果。。。。。。好饿，写不下去了。。。

How’s it going my friends? I just painted 4 types of chili peppers that I love and eat a lot. It’s inpired by @deemarshall’s Foodstorm Contest.

She asks participants to make some art about aphrodisiacs food. So the first thing coming to my mind is chili pepper. I have loved hot spicy food since a very young age, mainly influenced by my grandparents’ cooking. I don’t think I had any idea of aphrodisiacs then though… 😄

To make it a bit more fun, let’s play a little game! Can you tell me the names of these 4 peppers? I’m not saying “guess”, since I painted these peppers in a pretty realistic way. It shouldn’t be too diffcult right? The first person who get their names right will have 1 Steem. So come join it! Look forward to your answers.

Greetings everyone! Time flies - I’ve joined Steemit for over a year, and I am grateful for many communities and friends that have been constantly supporting and inspiring me.

To celebrate this anniversary and to give back to the Steem community, I am hosting a cross-culture challenge. (Thanks @Partiko for sponsoring part of the rewards!) Let’s join some fun in this bear market! :)

So why a cross-culture challenge? ❓

Like I said in my intro post:

I’m most enthusiastic about traveling, photography, cooking, art… I believe any traveler understands this wanderlust - you just can’t have enough. By traveling far and wide, you discover new ways of living and understand other cultures to appreciate them, you constantly get inspired and would ultimately better yourself. Especially when you travel solo, you set yourself free and interact more with locals. You start to judge less and accept more.

I do, like many of you foodies there, take great pleasure in eating and cooking. And I try to learn cooking from different cultures during my travels, to spice up my own experiments on food fusion…

There is a great variety of cultures on this planet, and each culture has its own charm. Lived across 5 continets and traveled to over 60 countries, I have been mesmerised by all the different cultures. Steemians here come from all over the world with rich cultural backgrounds. It would be fun to exchange some ideas/photos/videos… Exchange makes change. Live and let live. So my challenge will focus on “cross-culture”.

To join this challenge, you just need to compare 2 or more cultures that you have experienced. Any form of content is welcome, you can write a short essay, post a photo story, create a drawing/painting/animation/design, share a quick video, record your voice of talking or singing… all fine! It would be great to hear your personal stories soaking up in different cultures. Share your inspiration with us!

Then what is culture? 🧐

Back in my uni course of Cultural Studies, there’s been heated discussion about what exactly culture is. To some extent, it seems almost everything can be seen as culture. To give you a bit inspiration, here’s one of the definitions:

Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts, etc..

So that’s it, just go pick a cultural topic (language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts, etc..) from 2 or more particular groups of people that you are familiar with, and show the differences to us in a certain form. Inspire me and other Steemians! Tell us any culture shock you experienced or any changes it brought to you!
