How are you doing my Steemit friends? Any plans for New Year’s Eve? (Or in some parts of the world - what did you do for it? ;))

I’m going to Maastricht of the Netherlands soon for the New Year fireworks by the river. I was in this amazing town a few times and visited its Christmas market with some friends 6 years ago. Time flies! Only 1 year ago, I was watching the famous New Year fireworks in Sydney on a road trip, also by water.

Now it’s cooooold and glooooomy here in Belgium. I miss the warm sunshine in the Southern Hemisphere, so I’m sharing with you a dancing video of me and other travellers in the desert of Bolivia!

It was the January of 2017. My long journey traveling through South America almost came to an end. The Uyuni trip in Bolivia was my last one before going back to Chile to work. I got to know the Chilean couple and 2 Portuguese girls from the same jeep, and we improvised this group dance in the desert that morning. It looks silly, I know, but we had so much fun recording it. Great memories! 😃

Hope you enjoy it like I did! And have an awesome 2019 everyone!

Here are a few photos to show you how that breathtaking (literally too due to its high altitude) desert looked like:

#168 Wish Tree 🎄 |

Greetings everyone! Today I’m going on sharing my stories about Christmas. It’s also my entry to @aaronli’s A City a Story contest themed “Christmas”.

3 years ago, I was living in Santiago de Chile. On a hot day around Christmas, I walked into a post office to buy stamps to send out my greeting cards. Just when I entered the office, I saw this special Christmas tree standing inside, and it’s made of paper boxes. In each box, there’s a kid’s drawing and/or writing expressing their wishes. Pretty creative, right? =)

##

It reminds me of the Wish Tree Project by Yoko Ono. I first got to know her project in Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark. The museum provided white pieces of paper for visitors to write down wishes (see my picture below). Later these notes were tied around a branch of a Wish Tree. Wishes from different countries have been stored in the Wishing Well of the Imagine Peace Tower.

##
At Japan’s Tanabata festival, people write wishes on pieces of paper and hang them on bamboo trees, in hope that the tall straight bamboo send the wishes to heaven.

I’m not sure if Yoko Ono was inspired by this festival, but it’s fascinating that a tree is commonly seen as a natural sanctuary in many cultures, and it’s identified as having a special traditional or spiritual significance. Trees are believed to be antennae for divine energies related to the heavens. People come to some selected trees to make wishes or offerings, in the form of coins, notes, fabrics, flowers…

##
It’s said that Native Americans pay respects to a ponderosa pine tree. They would hang objects like ribbon, meat, tobacco and coins on its branches to honor it. Sounds familiar? Perhaps this is the early Christmas tree? ;)

When I lived in Queensland of Australia, I saw plenty tall Bunya Pine trees. They bear significant cultural connections to the indigenous groups too. When it’s harvest time, the originals came from all over to celebrate Bunya festival around these native trees. To them, these sacred trees did not only provide food, fuel and shelter, but also make their dreams come true.

#167 Decorating the Christmas Tree 🎄 |

##
What’s up fellow Steemians! In this post I’m going to share some Christmas trees I’ve seen in different parts of our lovely planet. The head image here is my entry for the CHRISTMAS-STEEM PHOTO CONTEST 2018 by @flamingirl. She is a devoted Steemian who posts daily and hosts photo contests regularly. Check out her page and join the Christmas photo fun! =)

I took these two photos during the Christmas time 2 years ago in Ecuador. I was travelling solo through South America then from Colombia all the way down to Chile. So I got to experience the holiday in the Southern Hemisphere, and I shared some pictures on Steemit last Christmas - Be Creative - 10 Alternative Christmas Trees for Your Inspiration .

It did feel very unique in some hotter places, while in these 2 photos, it was in the Andean mountains in central Ecuador, so it’s still pretty cold. The local women in traditional clothing were decorating the Christmas tree at the center of their small village. I happened to walk by and captured this scene.

What do you think of this shot? Do you find it interesting as I did? :)

How are you doing my Steemit friends? Enjoying your holiday with families and friends? Christmas is definitely in the air! 🎄🎉 And I just made a Christmas card for @Partiko, after I got to know the design contest from @rosatravels’ post.

##

##
Partiko is an awesome mobile app for Steemit developed by @crypto.talk and his team. It’s been widely known among CN community since a few months ago, and it’s getting more and more popular after SteemFest 3. If you haven’t started using it, give it a try at https://partiko.app. I’m sure you will love it!

Now have a look at how I made the Christmas card~ I really “made” a card - I mean a handmade paper card, not a design with software. :) I just love DIY and drawing by hands, so I came up with this idea for the Partiko contest. Hope you will like it! 😃

##
Here’s the breakdown:

##

  • Step 1
    Sketch the design with a pencil - Partiko for you as a gift from Santa’s stocking! And at the back, Partiko’s got a Christmas hat in this cold winter :) :

1.jpg

##

  • Step 2 🔪
    Finish the greetings with silver and gold glitter gel pens, and cut out the Partiko logo (this is some fun you can only get from handmade card! :D):
    2.jpg

##

  • Step 3 🎨
    Start coloring with brushes and metallic watercolor paint. I opted for the metallic paint as they look more festive:
    3.jpg

##

  • Step 4
    I limited the colors to silver, gold, red (the holidayish colors) and blue (Partikoish color ;D):
    4.JPG

##
That’s it: 🤗
5.JPG

##
7.jpg

And I had fun testing out different backgrounds for the cutout Partiko logo: 😁

##
Over the Boston ferns:

##
Over the blue car lights with bokeh:

##
Over the Christmas ornament:

##
So that’s how I created the greeting card. =) Do you like it? Tell me what you think and Merry Christmas~!!! 🎊🎈

#165 Drone Shot of Lake Constance ✈ ⛵ |

How’s it going my fellow Steemians? It’s Thursday again, a day for images from Europe! :) So I’m sharing a shot by a drone (DJI Mavic Pro) above Lake Constance in Europe. I was at the sandy shore flying the little friend for a video of the lake region, and clicked this picture during its flight.

It’s my entry for the #TravelPhotoContest by @lightcaptured, a great photographer on Steemit. I’ve seen his cool posts by curating for Steemitworldmap, and now I’m very excited to find his brand new contest that combines travel and photography. I guess this is not only my passion, but also lots and lots of other Steemians’, right? Check out the contest and join the travel photo fun!

Lake Constance is known as Bodensee in German language. It is a huge lake that borders Austria, Germany and Switzerland. When I look at the seemingly endless lake surface from a certain angle, I feel it’s a vast sea, just like Lake Baikal and Lake Titicaca I visited before.

Since I used to live and am living now in Belgium which boarders Germany, I frequently passed this lake during road trips, or stayed a few days at a town by the riverside. In summer, it’s a popular destination for water sports like sailing, windsurfing and swimming. It’s also relaxing to just sit by the river, reading, chatting or having a picnic. You can also pedal your bike around the entire lake on a cycle path for about 270km. I only tried driving but I believe it’s a great way to see the lake and the sites nearby. Will you give it a try?

I would recommend the following places to visit along the way:

Wollmatinger Ried: a nature reserve to protect the rich flora and fauna;
Lindau: the largest town on the Bavarian shores;
Konstanz: boasts a beautiful old town and a historic harbor;
Mainau: a very touristic but amazing flower island;
Reichenau: Lake Constance’s largest island that was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and preserves the traces of the Benedictine monastery;
Pfahlbaumuseum Unteruhldingen: an open-air museum displaying the German-style stilt houses;
Allgäu upland: a picturesque mountain region between Lake Constance and the Lech valley.

##
P.S. Consider view this photo via frontends other than Steemit.com, such as Steempeak, otherwise the not-so-good drone image quality could look even worse! ;)
