#55 The Star Bridge - Stari Most in Bosnia 🇧🇦 波黑的明星老桥

This hump-backed stone arch bridge here is Stari Most in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is connecting the two parts of the pretty town Mostar. Stari Most literally means “Old Bridge”, it is an iconic landmark in the country, usually seen as one of the most significant Balkan Islamic architectures. I enjoyed visiting these distinctive architectures here as well as in other Balkans such as Albania, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Kosovo…

When I was traveling in this region, whenever I read a travel map of sights, there had always been this bridge on it. So I talked to some Bosnians, and they told me that the bridge is seen as a symbol of peace nowadays, as it was destroyed in 1993 by Croat military forces during the Croat–Bosniak War.

It’s said that among local people, there is an old tradition that 16-year-old boys are encouraged to plummet 24m off the bridge, into the Neretva river down below. And this cruelly(to me) brave act has become more and more popular among tourists. There is even a diving club charging tourists if they want to jump. It’s a pity that I didn’t get to see any people taking this challenge to jump into that chilly abyss, otherwise I might have clicked some more appealing shots with a diving figure in them. ;)

Stari Most was first built in 16th century by a well-known architect Mimar Sinan who built many major Ottoman Sultan’s buildings in Istanbul. It stood there for over 4 centuries until the Croat–Bosniak War. The reconstruction was finished in 2004 when the bridge was reopen to the public.

My first 2 photos are entries for the B & W photo contest by @daveks. I used my old camera Canon Kiss X3.

#54 Satay Fried Rice Recipe 🍛 一起来做简单美味的沙爹炒饭

Today I would love to share a recipe of a super easy vegetarian rice fried with satay sauce. It’s not that typical satay dish of Southeast Asia, which I will show you another time.

Used to be called Fried Rice Queen by my co-workers, I always cook this lunch for a workday when it’s short of time and ingredients. Of course you can also fry the rice(better leftover rice as it’s drier and non-sticky) with other sauces/vegetables or without any sauce. I add meat cubes or sausage slices too when they are available. It’s simple, fast, tasty and pretty healthy. What else do you ask for? ;) So let’s get started!

今天来个最容易的炒饭分享，这里我不是要说怎么做那种南洋常见的沙嗲酱配肉串（这个下次聊），而是用现成的沙嗲酱来炒个蔬菜和剩饭（颗粒更分明，干爽不粘腻）。=)

因为非常简单粗暴快捷方便，我常常炒饭带去公司当午餐，被同事戏称为“炒饭女王” ;)。下面是我身边现有的原料，换成其他蔬菜也可以，比如蘑菇、青豆、西葫芦、玉米粒、胡萝卜等。加点鸡肉、猪肉、牛肉丁，或香肠、虾仁也很美味！

步骤：

先用大葱和洋葱爆过的热油炒鸡蛋（鸡蛋液里加点盐和黄酒调味），再入米饭一起大火快炒，加点盐和白胡椒粉（辣椒和鸡精可选，我有时候还加点耗油或姜黄粉，味道也不错）。最后加入黄瓜粒、豆芽和花生，这里可以再依个人口味加入喜欢的酱料（见下图），迅速翻炒一下就可以出锅啦！

Ingredients

Here’s the ingredients I used. Just use whatever vegetables you have at hand, such as mushrooms, zucchini, corns, carrots, peas…
I used cucumber and bean sprouts this time simply because I found these 2 in the fridge. :)

Preparation

Stir the eggs with a bit salt and Chinese yellow cooking wine(optional).
Mince the shallot onion, scallions(or chives/ciboulette) and chilies. Dice the cucumber into cubes.

Flame on!

First, sauté the minced onions and scallions in cooking oil. Leave the chilies for later (or never if you can’t bear the heat ;p), since they can get very hot and burned if fried too early.
Fry the stirred eggs in the onion&scallion flavored oil and scramble them.
When the scrambled eggs are almost done, add rice and toss to mix well.
Stir fry shortly in high heat, along with salt and white pepper (you can add turmeric powder or oyster sauce too).
At last, add the cucumber cubes, bean sprouts and peanuts, as they are not supposed to be cooked too much.

If you feel like eating something fresh, then it’s finished at this step (the photo above).

Or you can add satay sauce and more chilies in the next step like I did. (Sorry I forgot to take a photo of the sauce, ;p it’s just that kind of jarred one from Lee Kum Kee, which is easy to find in an Asian supermarket.)

Keep stir-frying:

喜欢清淡一点口味的，到上面这一步就可以了。我是个无可救药的重口味，所以又加了沙爹酱和辣椒🌶️。继续翻炒均匀：

#53 An Abandoned Car And A Wallaby in The Forest 🚗 森林中的废弃车和小袋鼠

We found this abandoned car in Wyong State Forest, north of Sydney, Australia. In a road trip, after visiting Newcastle, we drove on to the huge forest inland, and stayed one night there. The next morning, after a few hours driving on a rough road twisted downhill, we turned to a wider road, and saw this wallaby standing right in front.

题图里的废弃车是在悉尼北边的Wyong国家森林公园里看到的。上次的自驾旅途中，在纽卡斯尔的酷热中逛了一天后，向西南内陆的大森林前进。在凉爽的森林里睡了一晚后，第二天继续往南，在蜿蜒的石子路上颠簸了几小时后，终于转向一条宽阔大道，中间还有只沙袋鼠（体型比一般袋鼠小）若无其事地站在那里。是不是挺萌的？澳大利亚荒郊野外的路上常常是动物比人多，一路上经常偶遇这些可爱的小家伙，以后我会分享更多动物的照片和视频。当然也有不那么可爱的大家伙，比如有司机撞上过巨型袋鼠，还好人没亡，车却毁掉一块。

#52 Some SMILE Portraits in My Travels 😃 一些旅途中的微笑｜月旦评摄影

A smile costs nothing, but gives much. Pretty often we underestimate the power of a smile, the gorgeous curve that sets everything straight. Have you ever had the experience that someone’s lovely smile just brightens your day? It happened to me a lot in daily life and during my travels. Here are 4 portrait photos of SMILE I clicked on the road, with my old friend Canon Kiss X3. They are not composed photo shoots in studios or such settings, so I’m not sure if they are qualified for the Portrait Contest hosted by @jasonrussell, but I’d love to share these contagious smiles. Smile more, frown less!😃

A Smiling Hamer Woman and Her Baby

This woman is from the Hamer tribe, in Omo Valley in the south of Ethiopia. I didn’t focus only on her smiling face, as I also wanted to show her baby, her traditional braided hair, the highly decorative accessories she was wearing, and a glimpse of her living environment. The marital collar on her neck indicates that she is the first wife. Her beaded necklaces and metal bracelets are distinctive from that region.

Three Smiling Ethiopian Kids

I took this photo in a village near Turmi, Ethiopia. I was strolling the streets of the village when these cute kids came to me to say hello. They were quite curious about me, this strange outsider, just as I was curious about their community and culture. They tried to talk to me in loads of funny gestures they just improvised, and they were wearing the big smile on their face through our communication. I don’t think we understood everything from each other, but no worries there, all people smile in the same language.

这张照片是我在埃塞俄比亚南部图米附近的一个小村庄拍的。我当时在街上漫无目的地闲逛，这些可爱的孩子看到我这个异样的外族人，都跑过来争先恐后地跟我打招呼。一个个手舞足蹈，脸上绽放出快乐无比的笑容，我的心情也变得灿烂起来。😃 他们对我充满好奇，正如我对他们的村落和文化充满好奇一样。我们都开心地笑着，打着各种手势试图和对方交流，虽然并不能完全互相理解，但是这又有什么关系呢？各族语言不同，却有着共同的语言：微笑。

A Smiling Syrian Girl Feeding A Cat

I was walking on a street in Istanbul that day and captured this beautiful loving moment. The street vendor nearby told me this is a Syrian refugee girl who is sometimes seen begging for food on that street, and I was lucky to witness her feeding a cat with the food she just got.

那天我在土耳其伊斯坦布尔的街头闲逛，目睹并记录下了这温情的一幕。旁边的小贩告诉我这个小女孩是叙利亚过来的难民，有时来这条街乞讨，而我恰好看到她轻轻抚摸着一只小猫，用乞讨来的食物喂它的场面。

Smiling Kichwa Women in Ecuador

I met these Kichwa women in the small village of Quilotoa in the Ecuadorean Andes, next to a huge volcanic crater lake. They were all wearing the traditional hat, and they were chatting happily with gorgeous smile on their face. I greeted them in Spanish and found out that they were talking in Kichwa/Quichua, an Ecuador variety of Quechuan languages, a native South American language family spoken primarily in the Andean mountainous regions. These indigenous people are descendants of the Incas, the largest of the 13 indigenous communities in Ecuador.

那天去厄瓜多尔中部的Quilotoa火山湖，在旁边的同名小镇上遇到照片中这些Kichwa原住民。我用破烂的西班牙语跟她们打招呼问好，她们腼腆地笑着回应。然后她们几个人开心地聊天的时候，我突然意识到人家是说自己方言而不是西班牙语的。她们的土话叫Kichwa/Quichua, 是南美原住民语系Quechua的一个分支。

At last, greetings from smiling me in front of the National Museum of the Republic in Brasília. =)
