#314 Mountain Creek (2) 🏞 | 山间清流(二)

I shot this close-up of a water stream when standing on a slippery rock. It was on a hiking trip in the Picos de Europa national park of Northern Spain. It’s really refreshing dipping into this crystal clear cool creek under the scorching sun! 🌞

It’s my entry to the Close-up(Macrography) Contest by @ntopaz. I like the flowing water texture presented this way and the bokeh effect of the splashes down there. What do you think of this picture? Do you have macro photos to share as well? Don’t hesitate to join the fun!

The definition of Macrography on their page:

Close-up(Macrography) is an image taken at a scale that is visible to the naked eye, as opposed to a micrographic image. It is sometimes defined more precisely as an image at a scale of less than ten times magnification.

#313 Daffodils 🏵 | 水仙

When you see daffodils blooming in the wild, you know that spring is here. I’ve walked through impressive daffodil production fields in the Netherlands in spring time, and they are also very common in the gardens in Belgium.

It’s a flower associated with spring festivals like Lent and Easter in many Western countries. As you can see from my second photo here, the daffodils are “springing” out from an “egg”. 🙂

##

##
In the West the daffodil is also perceived as a symbol of vanity and misfortune, perhaps from the self-obsessed Narcissus in Greek mythology. While in some Eastern nations, it’s a symbol of beauty and wealth.

In China, the most popular daffodil is Narcissus tazetta var. chinensis. Its Chinese name literally means Water Fairy, and it’s normally cultivated in water as an ornamental plant indoors. People adore its pure white petals, elegant shape and intoxicating fragrance. Like the Greek mythology and William Wordsworth’s poem, there have also been legends and poems in China about this flower.

Here’s a video by The Wordsworth Trust, telling the story of how Wordsworth’s well-known poem ‘Daffodils’ was composed. Also check out the beautiful Lake District featuerd in it! Hope I can visit this area as soon as possible. =)

The most famous poem in the English language was written in 1804, two years after William Wordsworth saw the daffodils while walking by the shores of Ullswater on a stormy day with Dorothy, his sister. Wordsworth’s inspiration for the poem came from an account written by Dorothy in her journal.

Daffodils

by William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed’ and gazed’ but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

There’s a mountain creek down there! We heard the babbling water sound when hiking along a narrow path next to some soaring cliffs in Picos de Europa. It was about 38 degrees in temperature, so the cool flowing stream was like a godsend.

We immediately descended from a not-so-vertical drop to approach the creek. Time to enjoy the splashes! Dipping into the crystal clear water was truly refreshing and relaxing at the moment.

If you like hiking in the wild nature, remeber to check out Picos de Europa one day! This wonderful national park is situated in northern Spain and has been designated a UNECO Biosphere Reserve. There are plenty of hiking routes in the park, and you will be surrounded by gorgeous limestone massifs, lush pastures and spectacular lakes and brooks.

I especially love this Cares Route that runs along the Cares River from Poncebos to Caín in León. The “Divine Gorge” trail is about 12 kilometres long in total. It was a lovely peaceful hike and a feast to our eyes along the way!

These boys were saying hi to me when I was strolling on a street in Colombo, Sri Lanka. They just came out from their school nearby and waved happily to my direction when they saw me pass by. The cute naughty boys and the typical vehicles at the background looked very photogenic, so I captured this moment with my camera. :)

Here is a closeup photo I took in Rose Valley of Morocco. You can see the details of the white roses and the little bee in natural sunlight. The pollen stuffed into the bee’s hairy receptacles on hind legs is also clearly visible. :)

#309 Reading | 闹中取静

Tetouan is the first major Moroccan town I reached after landing from Gibraltar Straight. When I walked through the lively souq in its old medina, I saw this vendor reading attentively next to his stand, enjoying his peace in the hustle and bustle.

It’s a beautiful sunny afternoon with a bit breeze. The man was standing in the sunshine and the tip of his scarf was flying in the wind. I liked this frame at the street corner - he’s in his own world accompanied by that French magazine, so I captured this moment before I moved on.

It’s my entry for @derangedvisions’ Deranged Photography Contest - Portraits. In his words,

Portraits are more than just taking a picture of a person and calling it finished. A good portrait captures the emotion and personality of the person. It can also tell a story of what the person is going through or who they are. When you look at a good portrait, you should be able to know something about that person.

Now that the Creative Coin and the front end https://www.creativecoin.xyz have been released, he’s going to reward the winners with CCC. Don’t hesitate to join the fun and grab some coins if you also have portraits to share!

Here’s another photo I posted before - also people in their own world at a busy market:
