IMO, there are two types of IT companies. The first one focuses the technology and the second one treats the business model as priorities.

Google, FB and some other well-known American IT companies are clearly the first one while many British (or maybe other European countries as well) IT companies are the second one.

The technology-driven companies respect the programmers and they prefer calling them geeks. The business-model-driven companies respect the management teams and the programmers are often told to do what they have been told in the requirement/specification documents. The technology-driven companies such as Google allow employees to work on their own projects at e.g. 10% time. But most other business-model-driven companies don’t allow this. The salary pay for programmers is in general much higher in technology-driven companies compared to business-model-driven ones.

I have also been to many coding interviews for the position of “Software Developer/Engineer”. The US companies ask questions of algorithms, data structure, as they are more interested in how you approach to solve the problems. The British I.T companies they ask you questions like, the frameworks, the languages e.g. C# LINQ, as they need you to work on the project immediately after you are recruited.

I am 33, and I think I am stuck in a British business-model-driven company for quite a long time. Maybe it is a good timing for me to try new things/challenges. I need to recapture those programming knowledge such as data structure and algorithms.

I think I have spent way too much time on STEEM…

世界上有两种IT公司, 一种是像谷歌 FACEBOOK这种以技术为先驱的对技术攻程狮待遇可以超过管理层的公司, 另一种就是商业模式优先, 比如啥挣钱就做, 而写代码的待遇一般不会高于管理层. 

Google 允许员工可以有一部分时间搞搞自己的项目 (比如 Gmail 就是员工业余时间业余项目搞出来的), 在大多公司, 特别是人力不足的情况下, 码农只能按照需求写代码, 甚至代码都得按到规范来写, 很多时候扼杀了创造力. 

30多岁还在写代码, 没有任何大公司背景的我很迷茫. 就像我自己说的, 这两类公司其实可以通过面试的类别就可以区分开来. 以技术为先驱的公司面试的题目大多是算法, 设计. 而以商业模式优先的公司大多会需要掌握一门技术很具体的框架或语言(在工作需求文档 Job Specs): 比如招C#程序员需要懂 WPF, WCF或者LINQ. 我接触过一些面试, 大多美国IT公司是前者, 而英国IT公司是后者.

我不想在这么䘵䘵无为了. 每天过得很安逸, 再不行动起来 脑子都快转不动了. 现在的程序员门槛低, 很多时候只需要把现有的框架或工具用胶水粘起来, 而这类程序员就真的是码农, 而专注于技术算法, 拥有高效的解决问题能力的程序猿才能称之为攻程狮. 

脑子动起来, 每天晚上把玩STEEM的一部门时间拿来看书和学习!

I live in Fen Drayton, which is a small village in Cambridgeshire. The local popular place of interest is Fen Drayton Lake. 

It is a great Family day that we walk by the lake and enjoy the sunshine, lake and the grass. What a great day!

之后就去摘草莓了 🙂

I have a small house (3 bedroom), and I recently feel it necessary and important to let my sons love reading, instead of watching too much TV.

Previously, there was no study room, so when my kids read a book, they sit on the sofa or on the floor. I feel guilty about this. Thus, I have moved my PC to the corner of the living room and put a tiny desk on the room, where my sons now call it “office”.

 上周我姐过来一看我在英国混得这么惨而且教育孩子完全就是基本放养, 一顿给我痛批. 让我好像梦中惊醒一般. 

 我已经33了, 已经感觉到了事业上接近天花板的年龄, 别人可能会觉得, 也许我一辈子也就这样了. 但是我孩子的潜力是无限的, 而且这正是培养孩子塑造孩子良好习惯最关键的时候: 从小抓. 

 现在摆在我面前的那件事情需要改进: 一是让自己的事业更上一层, 二是把孩子教好. 如果精力有限只做一件事, 那么选择把孩子教好. 因为我可不想孩子以后啃老, 再过十几年, 如果我两孩子都上剑桥大学, 差一点如清华北大, 那么我和我媳妇 @happyukgo 日子到时候该多轻松啊, 多么浅显的道理. 

 孩子有出息, 父母骄傲. 很快我们就要拼娃晒娃了: 三十年前看父敬子, 三十年后看子敬父. 我姐看着 我两娃坐地上看书, 家里那么乱 都特别的生气. 于是才有了 断舍离 和 把我的电脑房搬出来弄一个简易书房的改变. 现在房子还太小, 三房, 所以我两娃只能暂时共用一个卧室和书房, 作为父母的下两年目标就是给家里布置一套大一点的四居室, 好好的培养孩子, 这才是现阶段的重点. 

 把桌子从储藏间拿出来 给孩子们看书用

I lived in Luton from 2004 to 20011 (7 years exactly). Last week, we drove back to Luton and stayed there for one night. Everything still looks familiar except for a few new university buildings.

We also went to the Brooks Pub, which I worked as a bartender 11 years ago.  

这次带着我姐开车到处游玩, 当天从温莎城堡开车1个半小时回到我在英国待的第一个地方 鲁顿 Luton (我从2004年到2011年住了7年曾经学习生活和工作过的地方) 

 英国夏天9点多的天色还亮着, 回到曾经生活的小镇 格外的亲切 

 LUTON的小笨钟 镇中心, 下面那个我们称为 铁扇公主

当年在镇中心的 Brookes酒巴工作了一年左右, 因为需要赚生活费(一周当时学生规定最多20小时 每小时4.85英镑, 一个月能挣大概400英镑) 

 喝了3品脱啤酒也差不多

每次回Luton 都要来母校留个影, 以下是06年的时候. 

I looked so young 11 years ago…

 11年前刚读博士那会儿， 如今，真是惨不忍睹。岁月真是把杀猪刀。

But now…  Time flies like an arrow , and time lost never returns. 

 母校在英国排名靠后, 被我们戏称为野鸡大学, 因为较好毕业所以每年学生满意度调查总是分数很靠前. University of Bedfordshire…被我们说成是 Bedfordshit, 而校徽也被我们形象成竖中指.

虽然恨铁不成钢 不过我们还是很爱母校滴哟!

My friend gave me this as a “present”. It is 6.5kg which is estimated to provide 10 servings. The pork was dried for 6 to 18 months.. and it is mature for 12 months.

My plan of cooking this: cut into slim slices, boil, steam, and cool down. There are a lot, so I will store them in the fridge. The ham can then be fried and served later.

Any better cooking recipes? Thanks!

 猪腿可以拿来当武器 Pork Weapons? LOL  这才是抱大腿的正确姿势！

 前不久 朋友从谢村过来送了我一猪大腿, 原产是西班牙的, 风干真空保存(风干6到18个月). 包装上写着保质期12个月, 里面自带刀具(架). 

 6.5kg 可食用平均10次左右 保质期12个月

实在是很重, 这么一大块肉, 做起来也挺麻烦. 据网上查得: 得先切片, 然后水煮再蒸干保存食用. 就怕一下子吃不太完浪费了, 可惜肉在英国, 要不然就请你们过来一起食用了(机票不包哈)

Today, we walked through the Fen Drayton Lake to the bus station (Fen Drayton Reserve), then we went to the town of St Ives.

The weather is good, blue sky, sunny day. The temperature is 19 to 21, which is just right.

The views are great. We appreciate the nature for the beautiful views and such a great day out. Please take a look at the following photography taken.

离家走路20多分钟有一个公车站, 坐9分钟就能到隔壁村的隔壁村 St Ives, 于是今天一家人带着三孩子变徒步穿过 Fen Drayton 湖间小道, 早上天气还不错, 蓝天白云 微风, 温度19-22度左右, 真是舒服的不要不要的. 

 公车单程一人2英镑, 5岁小孩以上1.35英镑, 5岁小孩以下免费. 

 好几年没有坐公车了, 特别是自己开车之后更少了. 今天才发现, 即使是穷乡僻壤 公共交通也很发达, 怪不得这里总不缺蓝天白云呢. 

 照片是大部分是由我的单反+新镜头(24-70mm F2.8)照的, 少部分是 iphone se. 照片不按顺序, 就让我们随着照片来一起感受一下这英国的慢节奏.
